One for Claudia Dell's fans and railroad fanatics!
JohnHowardReid31 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Here's a real cheapo, photographed on short ends and other bits and pieces of bargain film stock picked up from all over the place. It's a wonder that photographer William Hyer was able to get any images at all from some of the stock. Much of it is too dark, but fortunately, just about all of it is reasonably viewable and the players are so professional they don't seem to mind acting in both short takes and long. Director Al Herman has taken advantage of real locations and, whatever else it is or is not, Speed Limited is must viewing for all train buffs. I didn't realize that some railroad executives and a few millionaires had their own private cars which they could hitch on to a regular passenger express. Ralph Graves makes only a so-so hero, but Evelyn Brent is convincing as the gangster's moll. However, it's Claudia Dell who walks away with the movie's acting honors as the hero's jinx. Available on a good enough Alpha DVD.
