Song writer Duke Wilson (Bob Crosby) and his showgirl sweetheart Lois Rogers (Ruth Terry) have to keep breaking their engagement because Duke keeps losing his money playing poker...and the hacked-off Lois finally declares finis to the whole process.
Duke and his pal, Cliff Dugan (Eddie Foy, Jr.), write a new musical comedy and get wealthy playboy Bob Madison (William Wright) to back it, but it comes up that Madison and Lois are now a romantic item , and that his backing-plans includes her as the show's leading lady.
Don't matter, no how, as Duke, Cliff and Madison are drafted, and Ruth goes along to the camp as an official hostess...sort of a cleaned-up version of Marlene Dietrich's Official Camp-Follower in MORROCO...minus the arty shots.
Then rookie-newly-arrived Buck Private Duke takes over the U.S. Army and proposes his show be produced at the camp, with Lois as the leading lady. Then Lois finds out that Duke is not doing this just to entertain his fellow rookies, but in order to "test" the show for professional production. Lois declares this to be a tacky move indeed on his part and gets all hacked-off at him again, despite his logical argument that he has to look to the future and "how long can this duration thing last, anyway" Since the United States Department of Defense is now the show's backer and Madison's money is no longer needed, he disappears quicker than Lee Bowman did in BUCK PRIVATES.
