Whether it be the ridiculous macho posturing some males do to attract a mate or the bizarre positions and sexual acts couples engage in, when you think about it mating is really strange. And that’s just humans.
Although if you think we’re weird, you should look to the animal kingdom. There are some creatures out there who take repopulating their species to whole new levels of freaky with their mating behaviour. Perhaps the most well-known example of these extreme mating behaviours is the fact that if a male praying mantis decides to further his line, it will come at a serious price , as the female takes the term “man-eater” a bit too literally.
But what about the less well known examples? Whether it’s animals that are (quite literally) dying to have sex or those with some of the least sexy methods of seduction you’ll ever hear,...

Earlier this year we picked artist Darryl Jones as one of 23 Instagram accounts you should follow, and it's still a must see.
The page features a whole bunch of awesome artwork, but its main attraction is the secret life of Eric, a sensitive Stormtrooper who enjoys chess, motorbiking and flower arranging. Have a look at just some of the best work from Jones below.

Sneeze face, cheese mites, and techno Charles Chaplin: San Francisco Silent Film Festival 2014′s ‘Amazing Tales from the Archives’ (photo: Fred Ott’s ‘sneeze face’ in the short film ‘Edison Kinetoscopic Record of a Sneeze’) The "Amazing Tales from the Archives" presentations at the 2014 San Francisco Silent Film Festival, which ran May 29-June 1, focused on three subjects: "A New Look at an Old Sneeze" nearly bordered on redundancy. Fred Ott’s sneeze, officially known as Edison Kinetoscopic Record of a Sneeze, was filmed by the Edison Manufacturing Company in 1894 and is one of the oldest surviving "motion pictures." The approximately one-minute short film illustrates a man — Thomas Edison’s assistant Fred Ott — in the throes of sneezing. While historically a cinematic event and notable as the first motion picture to be copyrighted in the United States, Edison Kinetoscopic Record of a Sneeze never does quite illustrate the potential of what film can do.

Shirley Jones: From book to film A few weeks ago, Shirley Jones, 79, made headlines following the publication of her book of memoirs, concisely titled Shirley Jones: A Memoir. But why the headlines? Does Shirley Jones twerk like Miley Cyrus? Nope. (And that may explain why the release of Jones’ book wasn’t selected as CNN.com’s Top Story of the Day.) So, were The Media and The People interested in Jones’ Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for Elmer Gantry, or maybe they were curious about her work in several major 1950s musicals and 1960s comedies? Are you crazy? Who gives a damn about that? The Answer: Let’s just say that the furor had something to do with sweet and innocent all-American bare breasts and three-ways. Keep that in mind next time you watch Oklahoma! (Photo: Shirley Jones ca. 1955.) (On TCM: “Shirley Jones Movies: Innocent Virgins and Sex Workers Galore.

‘The Deanna Durbin Unit’ (photo: Robert Cummings, Deanna Durbin, and Charles Laughton in It Started with Eve) [See previous post: "Deanna Durbin Movies Save Universal."] Deanna Durbin and Henry Koster, who has been credited with helping to mold Durbin’s screen persona, collaborated on five movies. Besides Three Smart Girls, there was the inevitable sequel, Three Smart Girls Grow Up (1939), in addition to One Hundred Men and a Girl, after which Durbin’s salary was reportedly doubled to $3,000 per week, plus a $10,000 bonus per film; the Cinderella-like First Love (1939), in which, following worldwide publicity, Durbin gets kissed on screen for the first time (Robert Stack was the kisser); Spring Parade (1940), with a Viennese setting and Robert Cummings as her leading man; and It Started with Eve (1941), a light, well-received romantic comedy co-starring Cummings and Charles Laughton. (Universal would also release the 1964 remake, I’d Rather Be Rich, starring Sandra Dee in the Robert Cummings role, Robert Goulet in the Deanna Durbin part,...

I hate to say it, but I feel more and more like this season of How I Met Your Mother is going to be the last. Why? Because more and more I see the gang preparing for real life in some pretty profound ways. (Real life = when every day seems filled with eights and higher.)
Tonight’s “Who Wants to be a Godparent?” for example, dealt with death, specifically Lily and Marshall’s. They began to wonder what would happen to Marvin if they ever weren’t around to take care of him. Who would teach him life’s important lessons?...
