Paul Frees: Jerry

Quotes

  • [first lines]

Jerry : [narrating while watching Tom sitting on railway tracks for a train]  Poor Tom. In a few minutes, it'll all be over. And for the first time since he met her... he'll be happy. Poor, miserable, lovesick creature. I suppose people will say that I should have helped him. I know, but it's better this way. I'll never forget that first morning when it all started. If ever there where two true friends, that was us.

  • [last lines]

Jerry : [narrating]  Well, that's the story. The story of a cat with a broken heart. Too bad everybody doesn't have a girl like mine.

[Jerry admires a photo of Toots, which he kisses]

Jerry : A girl that loves me, and only me, with every bit of her true blue, ever-lovin' heart...

[Toots passes by in a car driven by another mouse, with a sign reading "Just Married" on the boot]

  • [after Tom fails to win back his love interest from Butch]

Jerry : [narrating]  Tom went downhill fast after that. He started drinking.

    [Tom gets "drunk" on milk]

Jerry : The next step was the gutter.

[Lying down, the "drunken" Tom is carried by rainwater into a gutter. Jerry pulls him out in time]

  • Jerry : [narrating]  When Tom first saw her, I thought he'd flip his lid. And he did.

[Tom is love-struck at the sight of a white female cat. The top of his head "flips" around in his excitement. He runs up to get a closer look at her]

Jerry : From the very beginning there was a... strong magnetic attraction between them.

[Tom is "magnetised", ie. he follows her without moving his legs]

Jerry : I tried to stop him, but it was no use. Poor, simple Tom; he was putty in her hands.

[she makes him make a variety of expressions, including making him look like a donkey]
