The Pink Panther at the gym
TheLittleSongbird9 July 2013
The Pink Panther cartoons are always interesting at least to watch, not all of them are great but most make for great entertainment. In The Pink is nice enough, but it doesn't see the Pink Panther at its best. The story is somewhat formulaic with a couple of spots that were lacking in energy, and not all the gags work. Some do, the boxing ball gag is the best of them and it is hugely amusing in its absurdity, others don't with the shadowboxing jokes forced and predictable(also a couple are obscure to the extent that even an adult might be at a risk at not getting them). The animation is detailed with some simple but very elegant-looking colours. The music is infectious in its upbeat jazziness and the theme tune for one so iconic has great staying power and doesn't annoy. While there are a couple of pacing lulls, In the Pink generally moves briskly and there are a lot of gags at least, though admittedly their effectiveness is a mixed bag. The little man is a funny and suitably bemused adversary, and Pinky is still charming and cool with great and wholly natural comic timing. All in all, not one of the Pink Panther's finest hours but nice to watch. 7/10 Bethany Cox

Gym Membership Cancelled

Pink Panther Odyssey Part XXVIV

Fearing flabbiness, our intrepid panther ventures gymward and what follows is a bafflingly disconnected series of gym-based skits and occurrences, some of them involving severe bodily harm of the little man - some just completely obtuse. Having never ventured into a gym personally I can only assume this is what they're all like.

There's another variation of this picture . . .

. . . called From Page to Screen: In the Pink, which is included as a bonus feature on the 2005 MGM DVD release titled Pink Panther, Volume Two. This new version of the film uses well-edited split screens and actual full-blown animated clips to couple the preliminary crude sketches with the finished product. This is all backed by the original score, comprised primarily of Henry Mancini's iconic Pink Panther theme music. The end credits list K-e-l-e-n-e T-r-o-l-l-i-n-g-e-r as the producer\director of this retrospective look. John L-a-f-f-e-r-t-y is named as the film editor, and about a dozen other production assistants are mentioned as well.

One of the funniest
jan-wiberg18 July 2004
The Pink Panther is worried about him putting on weight lately, so he goes to a gym to get some exercise. He causes nothing but trouble to the little pointy-nosed man who also wants to keep fit.

This is one of my favorite Pink Panther cartoons. Having seen it countless times, it still cracks me up. The boxing ball episode is particularly absurd and hilarious, and even the old shadow boxing gag ends with a funny (and disaster-causing) punchline. It doesn't matter that a couple of gags (the one leading to the basketball scene, for instance) feel a bit forced, they're funny nonetheless. If you're a fan of this character, don't miss this one!

Warning: Spoilers
. . . buy an extended gym membership after watching IN THE PINK. The Pink Panther suffers through loads of fun with various barbell weights, boxing bags, mechanical shaker rides and resistance exercise belts. From chin ups to basketball dribbling, the pot-bellied big cat revels in all manner of stress-relieving muscle builders. Most Real Life gym rats have experienced the tolerance management has for the sort of mishaps depicted here, such as draining the swimming pool into the business below, mangling the changing room lockers and puncturing the building's outside walls. Incidents like these are all in a day of self-improvement at your local gym.

Warning: Spoilers
. . . IN THE PINK, which is included as a bonus feature on Disc 5 of the Pink Panther Collection, released by MGM in 2005. This spin-off is entitled PAGE TO SCREEN: IN THE PINK. It runs for five minutes, twenty-seven and one-third seconds, and consists of split screens simultaneously showing storyboards and other drawings, as well as clips from the finished cartoon. At one point, an advertisement for a "Lithe" Girdle appears, but I really could not figure out how that fits into IN THE PINK. Some of the spellings indicating where the desired sound effects should be used are interesting, even though they're probably not the Queen's English.

Tons Of Gags In This Stereotypical-Gym Story
ccthemovieman-120 April 2007
I remember the first time I ever went to a private gym to work out. It was a couple of years before this cartoon was released. I bring that up because the gym pictured here is exactly how they portray it in cartoons and such 50-100 years ago....not how they were like in 1967. It was mostly weight and weight equipment not these old iron horses, punching bags and the like. I guess these cartoonists never went to a gym.

Nonetheless, this has some neat twists to it, especially with the poor little white-faced man who is the victim several times of the Panther's ineptness in the gym. The shadowboxing jokes were too predictable as were a couple of others but the jokes came so fast and furious it was easy to sit back and just enjoy. If I didn't think a gag worked, another one would come along in 10 seconds. There's a lot of material in this animated short.

Pumping pink
CuriosityKilledShawn20 June 2006
The Pink Panther looks at himself in the mirror after a shower and decides that he is getting fat. Determined to lose weight he plods down to the local gym to pump iron. But being his hapless, clumsy self, whatever he does naturally leads to disaster.

Like most Pink Panther cartoons, some of the gags are funny and some are boring. But this time around a few are just downright obscure and senseless. If you watch In The Pink half-heartedly you might question what the hell is going on when you suddenly start paying full attention.

Not an inspired short by any means.

Endless gags at the gym!
OllieSuave-00712 September 2016
The Pink Panther notices that he is starting to have a beer belly and decides to go to the gym to trim and buff up. But, his attempts at using the gym equipment, from the weights to jump-roping, ends in hilarious results and loads of gags - one after the other, like the panther's shadow counterattacking him at shadow boxing. Therefore, you will be left laughing your hearts at and being entertained from beginning to end.

The pointy-nosed man makes an appearance in this cartoon short as well and he too tries out at the gym. He gets caught in the misfires of the Pink Panther and ends up being the brunt of many gags as well. A very funny one from the panther!
