Gene Roddenberry left Star Trek’s third season to write a Tarzan film that never got produced, setting a tone for the next decade of his career. He produced the wretched Pretty Maids all in a Row and slunk back to television, first with the animated Trek and then a deal with Warner Bros that would see him produce the underrated Questor and Spectre along with a new science fiction film, seemingly designed to distance himself from the optimistic Sf albatross around his neck.
He cut a deal with CBS in 1972 to produce a 90-minute film, Genesis II designed to be a pilot for a potential series. He quickly reunited with many of the behind-the-scenes Trek team and got to work, creating a dystopia that began in 1979. We open in 2133 as Earth is recovering from nuclear war and mankind has been dramatically reduced in number. Apparently, the survivors didn’t...

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration wants people to stop drinking bleach. Specifically, the organization has issued a warning against ingesting sodium chlorite products, following a recent rise in reported related health issues.
Known by various names including Miracle or Master Mineral Solution, Miracle Mineral Supplement, Chlorine Dioxide (CD) Protocol, Water Purification Solution (Wps), and most commonly, Mms, the product is a liquid solution that is 28 percent sodium chlorite in distilled water. When mixed with citric or hydrochloric acid — known as an “activator” — Mms becomes a potent, bleach-like chemical.

YouTube, which has taken great pains in recent months to crack down on both conspiracy theories and videos that encourage bodily harm, is now removing content that claims drinking bleach can cure autism, cancer, malaria, and a host of other diseases.
The conspiracy theory was being peddled on YouTube by a self-proclaimed “archbishop” named Jim Humble, reports Business Insider, as well as others. Hundreds of videos have been made on the subject, and clips by the top 20 proponents of the conspiratorial cure were viewed by roughly 3 million fans. In his videos, Humble, who is the founder of a church known as Genesis II, claims that the Miracle Mineral Solution (Mms) -- which amounts to chlorine dioxide, an industrial bleach -- “kills most of the diseases of mankind.”
All this despite the fact that the Food And Drug Administration (Fda) warns that ingesting bleach can cause nausea, vomiting, and severe dehydration,...

Star Trek was the show that wouldn’t die. After the original series was canceled in 1969, reruns in syndication attracted phenomenal ratings, an animated version ran for two seasons and the convention scene exploded. Things were not going as well for creator Gene Roddenberry. Two follow-up pilots, Genesis II and The Questor Tapes, did not go to series, and his big-screen movie, Pretty Maids All in a Row, flopped. Roddenberry depended on income from the Star Trek lecture and convention circuit. But by 1975, Paramount was toying with the idea of reviving the show as a big-screen

Hedwig recoups investment, Croatia approves civil unions, Jose Antonio Vargas detained at U.S. border in Texas
Hedwig and the Angry Inch has now recouped the investment to put it on, in a very short run. The show cost $5 million to put on, which is admittedly small for a major production. Capactiy crowds for a week would be $834,413, but with Sro crowds, it pulled in $1,072,311 last week. They’re not just banking that cash, either, because they just wrote a check to Hetrick-Martin Institute for $100,000 to help with their work with Glbt youth.
Malawi has announced that they are suspending their anti-gay laws and will not prosecute anyone while they are reviewed. This is a welcome bit of news out of Africa, where tighter and more brutal anti-gay laws seem to be popping up every day.
