A must see for aviation enthusiasts
pibwl26 October 2006
This Polish film is a psychological drama about a fighter pilot (Major Grela - Piotr Fronczewski), who lost in competition to become an unit's commander, against his colleague, Major Horycki. Moreover, Grela's marriage is about to break up and Horycki attracts Grela's wife. Grela is also afraid, that an illness may prevent him from flying.

What's more important to aviation enthusiasts, on a background we see an everyday service of a jet fighter unit of the Eastern Bloc in late 1960s. The film was made with help of the Polish 1st Fighter Regiment "Warszawa". It seems in fact, that the story is only a pretext for showing long, beautiful sequences of fighter aircraft in flight: first of all, MiG-21PF's, but also MiG-17s and two-seater MiG-15 (SBLim-2). Of a special interest are sequences of MiG-21s landing on a road. The film is totally different from productions like "Top Gun", but it is pleasant to see and much more interesting, considering, that "real" Eastern aircraft are unusual subject.
