Before inheriting the title "Master of Disaster", a perfectly justified honour for his reputation of creating some of the greatest disaster movies of the 1970s, Irwin Allen was also the man responsible for some of the classic TV shows to emerge in the 1960’s. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants have all survived the test of time and become immortalised among the best in terms of cultural importance. However, above all others, Lost in Space (1965-1968) is arguably the series that endured. Very loosely inspired by Johan David Wyss's classic 1812 adventure novel “Swiss Family Robinson”, the premise for the show was fairly uncomplicated and followed the adventures of the Robinson family, a crew of space colonists who encounter a number of strange and otherworldly situations after their ship is sabotaged and thrown off its original course. A great...

Comic book tie-in to the original series.
The cult '60s sci-fi series "Lost in Space" will be remade as an original show for Netflix. The original series, produced by Irwin Allen, was only modestly successful when aired on CBS for three seasons beginning in 1965. The show was a clever space aged remake of "Swiss Family Robinson", with a family of the future finding itself stranded in outer space. Along the way they meet numerous alien species and share exotic adventures. The series has developed a strong cult following over the decades with many fans nostalgic for the series' infamous use of threadbare, cheesy sets and the emphasis on overt humor. Attempts to revive the series have not been successful to date. A 1998 big screen version was loathed by fans of the original show. Plans to bring the show back as a series stalled once before, never moving beyond the pilot stage.

Martin Milner, who starred in the huge hit '60s and '70s show "Adam 12" -- which spawned generations of kids who wanted to become cops -- has died. L.A. Police Chief Charlie Beck tells TMZ, "Milner's depiction of a professional and tough yet compassionate cop led to thousands of men and women applying to become Lapd officers, including me." Milner also starred in another enormous show -- "Route 66" -- which was a...

The cast reflects on their favorite memories of working on Lost in Space from 1965–1968:
Mark Goddard: My moments are always the fun that I had with Bill [Mumy] on the show. I'm a prankster, and Billy came along with me during my pranks because I had to have him with me because I might get in trouble. If I had Billy with me, I wouldn't get in...

A long time ago, long before the word "Oscar" ever entered their lives, many of this year's nominees were appearing in minor roles on TV shows.
Before "Mad About You" made Helen Hunt a household name, she was a child actress who made serial guest star appearances on shows such as "Swiss Family Robinson," "The Bionic Woman" and "The Facts of Life." Bradley Cooper appeared in "Sex and the City" and was a series regular on "Alias." Most of this year's nominees got their start on TV, whether it was with regular roles like Sally Field in "Gidget" and "The Flying Nun" or as a serial guest star like Amy Adams or singing to children on "Sesame Street" like Alan Arkin.

Frank Langella played an aging writer in Starting Out in the Evening (2007). Who would have figured this for typecasting?
In his superb memoir, Dropped Names: Famous Men and Women As I Knew Them (HarperCollins), Langella reveals that he is an incomparable memoirist and storyteller, recalling his encounters with scores of luminaries from the world of entertainment in a career spanning half a century. All of these luminaries are deceased and the cast of characters is listed “by order of disappearance”. Just as well, as many of the revelations are quite shocking.
Langella must be the most sociable and congenial actor on the planet, as the busyness of his social and professional lives and the breadth and depth of his friendships, romantic liaisons and acquaintances are very impressive indeed. He met Marilyn Monroe in 1953. She stepped out of a limousine and said “hi” to the adolescent from Bayonne,...

Subject: Helen Hunt, 47-year old American actress
Date of Assessment: April 6, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Longevity, television, girl next door
Negative Buzzwords: Oscar, limited range, feature films
The Case: This week, we're dealing with yet another damn Academy Award winner and perhaps one of the greatest indicators that awards don't matter beyond a short-term improvement of the salary. In 1998, Helen Hunt won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in As Good As It Gets; she subsequently enjoyed a short run in a few high-powered blockbusters but then suddenly dropped off the Hollywood radar. Yet since the tender age of 10 years, Hunt's been working as an actress, although she didn't rise into mainstream popular culture until 1992's debut of "Mad About You." After seven seasons, a few Emmy awards, and a couple of blockbuster movies (including the aforementioned Oscar-winning role), Hunt pulled a Hollywood disappearing act for the most part. Indeed, the 1990s were hers,...

On Tuesday we showed you several new stills from Fox's forthcoming series Terra Nova, a big budget series slated to appear in two parts on Monday, May 23 and Tuesday May 24…with the rest of the show kicking off in the fall. The series contains some heavyweight producer talent — a lot of it as we noted the other day — including Steven Spielberg, Brannon Braga and René Echevarria.
Terra Nova follows a group of humans — specifically the Shannon family — as they travel back in time millions of years to prehistoric Earth in order to save the human race from extinction, nearing wrapping up time travel and an environmental cautionary tale in an action adventure tale that clearly borrows from Avatar (dense, tropical jungles) and Jurassic Park (dinosaurs).
A new trailer description arrived today, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, who got a screening of it during the press tour. Below is there description:

It's never good to hear about the passing of a popular celebrity, but there's certain days when someone passes away you expected to be here forever, and those days hurt the most. Today is one of those days.
Legendary performer and universally popular talent Leslie Nielsen died Sunday at a hospital near his home in Florida. Nielsen passed away after a suffering from pneumonia. He was 84 years old.
For many of us who grew up in the '80s, Nielsen was a man with purely genius comic delivery who made many appearances in parody films. What those people may not know is that Nielsen had been around for decades prior to his best-known works, and spent the majority of his career as a generally serious actor.
Over his 60-year career, Nielsen compiled an incredible 239 acting credits to his name. Many of his jobs were small roles on TV series, including...
