Elizabeth's mother tries to play cupid between her and Geoffrey. He's been away but is coming home early. He has something to say, but it comes as a shock to Elizabeth, especially as she's prepared a candlelit dinner for two.
It's Geoffrey's last day in his flat, so her says his goodbyes to Elizabeth. Elizabeth is scared that the new owners will want her and Roly out, only she soon takes a shine to one of the prospective tenants.
One of Elizabeth's upstairs neighbors, Sam, asks her to be a wife substitute at a works party. Having enjoyed being Jill so much, she invites Sam's boss back for food and drinks.
Elizabeth tries some new work: door to door pencil drawing! Then with Rose she decides to set up a crèche in her flat. The noise though upsets her new next door neighbor David. She may be contravening regulations.
David's publisher likes Elizabeth's illustrations for his book, so David asks her to dinner to say thanks. Elizabeth is hoping for something amorous, but will she be disappointed?
Elizabeth and David are playing it cool after their date, but then David invites her and Roly to his brothers cottage in Chichester with Penny. The weekend doesn't start well though when Elizabeth forgets the food.
