Arnie and Maud find themselves man and wife, but the wedding day gets off to a bad start when both Arnie and Llewellyn end up drunk at the reception. Maud decides to go home and await his arrival, but she discovers it could be a long day ahead of her as Arnie decides to track down stars and a director to make his first picture. Among them is Corky Brown, an alcoholic comedian always suspicious of his young wife Cora's friendships with her leading men, and his agent Max Legendre, an ambitious but pretentious director who proves a shrewd operator in contract negotiations. Then there are the Brewer family, who rely on their child star daughter Dotty for their career. But Dotty is no longer a child, while her older sister Clara has secret ambitions of her own.

Work begins on the new picture, but from the outset there are already problems. Corky's alcoholism proves a bit of a problem, while Max Legendre as director gets many people's back up, leading to conflict on the set. Arnie Cole has problems of his own, with him ordering material for the set without any money to buy it with. But his idea of getting capital for the film runs into stiff opposition from Maud, especially when she finds out he wants to sell her house. Meanwhile, Clara Brewer is determined to break away from her family and make her way in the film business on her own merit - even if that means posing for nude photographs to do so.

Maud finally gives birth to her child, but prospective father Arnie is nowhere to be seen at the hospital. That is because he is preoccupied by doing two films at once, a comedy short for Corky Brown and Max Legendre's ambitious romantic adventure story about a highwayman. Unfortunately Max's film is running over budget, and they are further lumbered with celebrated theatrical actress Gwendoline Harper, who proves not as young as they thought and every bit as temperamental as Max. Needing money to keep the business afloat and the bank reluctant to grant a loan, Arnie has an idea how they may get the extra capital - only this involves persuading the abandoned Letty to return to work for him.

Llewellyn returns with Letty to the film studio, but neither he or Maud is happy about Arnie's ex girlfriend turning up on set. Arnie promises her a part in making his film, but his idea is completely different to Letty's, who dreams of being reunited with him. Arnie has enough trouble with the demands of his ageing actress Gwendoline Harper, who insists that her young leading man Gilbert Winslow move into her new accomodation or she will walk. However, Gilbert is less than keen to get close to the predatory actress. Arnie decides to throw a party to impress the bank manager into giving him a loan for his film business and get everybody together, but not everything goes accordingly to plan.
