The Oscars this year were a spectacular affair with “Oppenheimer” taking home Best Picture amongst six other wins. But what made the Academy Awards such a party this year was Ryan Gosling’s live performance of “I’m Just Ken” from “Barbie.” Now, if you enjoyed that performance, you’ll surely love the Eurovision Song Contest. Camp, glittery, spectacle. But what is the Eurovision Song Contest, you may ask? Well, here’s a complete guide to fill you in and get you ready for the big event.

There’s no denying that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker certainly made some… interesting storytelling choices, especially with its main villain, who somehow returned to strike back at Rey and the Resistance. Not only does the movie reveal that Supreme Leader Snoke was just one of Emperor Palpatine’s clones all along, and that he’s been secretly preparing for the return of the true Empire and the Sith on Exegol, but we also get the biggest twist of all: Rey (Daisy Ridley) is his granddaughter.
The Emperor’s family tree is more complicated than that, though. Technically, Rey’s father, Dathan, is a failed clone of Palpatine rather than a biological child, but that hasn’t stopped fans from asking the big question: did the Emperor, in fact, have sex at some point during the saga? It’s a question that has haunted many, even if the answer...

Ayalaan Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Sivakarthikeyan, Venkat Senguttuvan, Sharad Kelkar, Rakul Preet Singh, Yogi Babu, Isha Koppikar & Karunakaran
Director: R Ravikumar
Ayalaan Movie Review Is Out! (Picture Credit: IMDb)
What’s Good: After a long time, here comes a fun sci-film that could be enjoyed with the entire family
What’s Bad: The storyline feels cliched, and there are some unconvincing moments
Loo Break: The first couple of songs could be a good time, or else the interval is enough
Watch or Not?: It’s a good relief from too many violent and serious films, so go for it!
Language: Tamil
Available On: Theatrical release
Runtime: 2 hours and 35 minutes

It’s Rauw Alejandro’s planet and we’re just living in it. The Puerto Rican reggaeton star just took the stage at the Latin Grammys in Seville, Spain Thursday to perform a medley of songs, along with a tribute to Laura Pausini and a performance with Juanes.
Rauw opened his performance with a pre-recorded, autotune-supported rendition of Pausini’s ballad “Se Fue” while surrounded by candles and a ring of fire. (Was that aimed at Rosalía?)

The UK may not have flourished in the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year when it stepped up to host on behalf of Ukraine, but the city of Liverpool emerged a winner.
The BBC reports that the council for host city Liverpool has announced a £55million ($66.66m) boost to the local economy, directly resulting from the Contest and its surrounding events in May.
The council reported that 306,000 people visited the centre in the weeks and days leading up to the Contest, attending the two Semi-Finals, the Grand Final, and a catalogue of other events held across the centre – well up on the 100,000 visitors expected ahead of the extravaganza.
In total, these visitors spent £54.8m ($66.4m) in bars, hotels and restaurants.

“Tattoo” is based on the story of Akiyoshi Umekawa, a Japanese mass murderer who killed a woman on December 16, 1963, and shot dead four people on January 26, 1979 during the notorious Mitsubishi Bank hostage incident. The film also signalled a change of direction for Banmei Takahashi, who was a veteran of pinku cinema up to that point, as the movie was a critical and box-office success and earned him an award for Best Director from the Yokohama Film Festival, along with a netting of 3rd best film of the year and a Best Actor for protagonist Ryudo Ozaki.

Taylor Russell, Ewan McGregor Title ‘Mother, Couch!’ to Bow at San Sebastian’s New Directors Sidebar
Starring “Bones and All’s” Taylor Russell, Ewan McGregor and Ellen Burstyn, “Mother, Couch!” the feature debut of Sweden’s Niclas Larsson, features in a currently 11-title lineup of San Sebastian’s 2023 New Directors section, the most important sidebar at the highest-profile movie event in the Spanish-speaking world.
Notable in Trey Edward Shults’ raved-reviewed debut “Waves,” Russell stars in “Mother, Couch,” billed as dark dramedy that, produced by Lyrical Media and Suris/Bishop Films, has largely flown under the radar. Though “Mother, Couch!” Is his feature debut, Larsson is a high-profile short filmmaker, his Vatten (2013) earned the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Göteborg, and 2015’s “The Magic Dinner” starred Alicia Vikander and Anna Wintour.

Swedish singer Loreen was named the winner of Eurovision 2023 for her pop anthem “Tattoo,” triumphing over 25 other nations in the finals on Saturday night.
This is her second time winning the contest, first earning the top prize for Sweden in 2012. She joins Ireland’s Johnny Logan, who won in 1980 and 1987, as a two-time winner. Sweden also has the joint amount of wins in the contest with Ireland at seven victories each.

In honor of Ukraine, Eurovision’s theme for this year was “united by music.” The event took place in Liverpool, England. Typically, the competition’s host country is the winner from the previous year, but since last year’s winner, Ukraine, is at war, the 2022 runner-up Britain hosted this year’s contest.
Loreen performed her song between two moving platforms, dancing around the stage while singing the chorus, “You’re stuck on me like a tattoo-hoo-hoo.
This is her second time winning the contest, first earning the top prize for Sweden in 2012. She joins Ireland’s Johnny Logan, who won in 1980 and 1987, as a two-time winner. Sweden also has the joint amount of wins in the contest with Ireland at seven victories each.

So the 67th Eurovision Song Contest was a game of two halves for the UK: stepping up as host nation in place of Ukraine, it delivered a flawless extravaganza, perfectly walking the tightrope between paying solemn tribute to Ukraine’s current plight and presenting an undiluted celebration of the unity of music with all the humour, goodwill and sometimes outright bonkers business that offers.
And, then on the night of the Grand Final, it could only start to shuffle its score sheets awkwardly as, pretty soon, it became clear the UK’s entry, sung by Mae Muller, was not going to do very well. Ultimately, while Sweden scored a historic victory with Loreen winning for a second time, the UK came second from the bottom of the board with a measly 24 points.

The theme of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, ‘United by Music,’ announced both the annual musical extravaganza’s all-embracing intentions and its status as a joint endeavor. With 2022 winners Ukraine unable to host in Kyiv due to the war, the U.K. – last year’s runners-up, thanks to Sam Ryder’s soaring “Space Man” – stepped in to reinstall this ever more spectacular circus (along with multiple Ukrainian creative personnel) in Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles. A declaration that this was to be the glitziest of collabs was served via a prologue that paired Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, reworking last year’s winning entry “Stefania”, with the Princess of Wales, apparently providing piano accompaniment from within Windsor Castle. Soft power-a-go-go.

Swedish singer Loreen won the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night with her power ballad “Tattoo”, at a colourful, eclectic music competition clouded for a second year running by the war in Ukraine.
The diva from Stockholm beat acts from 25 other countries to take the continent’s pop crown at the final of the competition in Liverpool. Finnish singer Käärijä was second in a close-fought battle of the Nordic neighbors.
Loreen, 39, previously won Eurovision in 2012 and is only the second performer to take the prize twice, after Ireland’s Johnny Logan in the 1980s. It’s Sweden’s seventh Eurovision victory, matching Ireland’s record.
“I am seriously overwhelmed,” Loreen said. “This is so beautiful.”

It’s two minutes into the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 and I already have chills. I’m watching something a lot of British people thought we’d never see: a Eurovision hosted in the U.K. After years of abysmal performances and frustration, the U.K. finally changed the narrative last year, finishing in second place behind Ukraine. Because of Russia’s invasion of their country, Ukraine is unable to host, so the northern English city of Liverpool has stepped up to host on their behalf. The show was opened by Kalush Orchestra,...

Sweden has won the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, marking a historic double for its victorious artist Loreen.
The Swedish star had previously won in 2012 with ‘Euphoria’, and she repeated the feat on Saturday evening with ‘Tattoo,’ which earned 583 points.
An estimated global audience of close to 180million watched as she collected the prize on stage in Liverpool, UK.
Finland came second, with Israel in third place.
Host country UK’s Mae Muller came second last out of 26 with 24 points, while last year’s winners Ukraine came sixth. Bottom of the board was Germany with 18 points.
Loreen had been the clear favourite going into the evening’s event. She is the only female artist to have won the Contest twice.
The Grand Final interval act began with a performance by last year’s UK runner-up Sam Ryder.

Eurovision Song Contest has given us some great global stars over the years, like Celine Dion, Abba, and Maneskin. The over-the-top competition is back in action this year, with an incredible slate of new songs indicating some tough competition. This week’s two semi-final airings whittled things down from 37 to 25 countries, who will participate in the May 13th showdown in Liverpool. Though Ukraine won last year’s Esc, the country could not host in Kyiv given the Russian invasion. For the fifth time in Esc history, the UK took over...

Thirty-seven countries are competing in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. This marks the 67th year of this international competition. To date, 27 countries have claimed bragging rights at least once. Ireland has come out on tops a record seven times. Sweden is close behind with six. France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and the UK have five wins each.
Israel have won four times while Denmark, Italy, Norway, and Ukraine (last year’s winner) have won three times each. Austria, Germany, Spain, and Switzerland have won twice. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Latvia, Monaco, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, and Yugoslavia have all won once.
There will be 26 countries who will feature in the May 13 final. Last year’s winner, Ukraine, qualify for the final automatically — as do the Big Five. The Big Five is comprised of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK and they get such privilege as they contribute the most...

The 67th Eurovision Song Contest kicked off with a bang on Tuesday night in the UK with the first of two semi-finals.
The city of Liverpool in northern England is playing host to the event this year, on behalf of last year’s winners Ukraine – whose culture was visible throughout proceedings, as it will be all week. A moving interval dance paid tribute to the country who are unable to host this year due to war.

The Eurovision Song Contest is the biggest and brightest music competition in the world. Organized by the European Broadcasting Union (Ebu), the contest pits various European countries against each other, who have to qualify via one of two semi-finals.
The top 10 in each semi-final then go through to the final, where they are joined by the host country (the winner of the previous year) and the Big Five — who all qualify automatically. Then, each country performs and vies for votes.
After the performances, every member of the Ebu dials in and dishes out 1-8, 10, and 12 points to their favorite songs – with the points decided via a combination of public votes and jury decisions in each country. Whichever country amasses the most points wins.
However, we don’t actually know the full roster for the final, which takes place on May 13, just yet as the semi-finals (May 9 and 11) haven’t taken place yet.

Being a part of a fandom can be an incredibly affirming experience. Sure, some of our friends and loved ones might not understand why we feel compelled to wear full cosplay and jam ourselves into overpopulated convention centers, but for those that understand our pop culture obsessions, an immediate familial bond can be forged by the power of wearing a matching T-shirt. Fans express their appreciation in countless ways, with some of the more die-hard folks willing to name their children after their favorite characters, or permanently alter their bodies by getting tattoos.
I'll admit that I'm one of those people, as all three of my tattoos are references to movies I love. Getting a fandom tattoo is a risky decision because while something might feel good at the moment, there's always the chance the creator of your favorite property might turn into the world's loudest mouthpiece for transphobia, and...

Led Zeppelin’s four members wrote and performed the band’s best songs. Guest musicians occasionally assisted, but Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham did the heavy lifting. Few directors have had as eclectic a career as Robert Schwentke. His 2002 German-language debut Tattoo — a slick Se7en-style serial-killer thriller — got the attention of Hollywood, and he initially appeared to be on the classic studio-director track, helming the Jodie Foster-starrer Flightplan, the all-star action hit Red and its sequel, and, most recently, the G.I. Joe movie Snake Eyes with Henry Golding and Andrew Koji.
But even from the start, Schwentke was a difficult director to pigeonhole. Best known for his action thrillers, he also took time to direct the romantic sci-fi drama The Time Traveler’s Wife with Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, the supernatural comic-book adaptation R.I.P.D. with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, and two films in the Divergent YA sci-fi franchise with Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.

The 2022 Latin Grammys are coming on November 18, so let’s see which artists could be the biggest winners of the night.
Camilo
This Colombian singer-songwriter is already the biggest nominee this year, racking up 10 bids for both his own songs and others he co-wrote. Wins in pop are likely, with the very real possibility of him claiming both Best Pop Song and Best Pop Vocal Album. Furthermore, he could pick up a win for Best Urban/Fusion Performance for “Tattoo (Remix)” alongside Rauw Alejandro, and is also a sure bet to win Best Tropical Song for his work as a songwriter on “Dios Así Lo Quiso.” And there’s also a possibility of Camilo sweeping the general field, especially since he is double nominated for both Song and Record of the Year in addition to his Album of the Year bid for “Mis Manos.” So he may need help carrying...

The Latin Grammy Awards, not to be confused with the Latin categories at the regular Grammys, honor the best music in the Latin-sphere, with contenders in both Spanish and Portuguese being eligible. This year in particular we have a lot of contenders, from big English-market crossovers to critically acclaimed gems. Let’s take a look at who could score big.
Massive crossover stars typically get recognized, so expect to see names like Bad Bunny and Kali Uchis come nominations day. The former has smashed this year with his hit song “Dákiti” featuring Jhay Cortez peaking at number-five on the Billboard Hot 100, which is rare for a Latin song. It also dominated the Hot Latin Songs chart and the Latin Airplay chart, as well as climbing high on the Rhythmic and Top 40 charts. The Who marked the 50th anniversary of their landmark concert at Leeds University by playing a special acoustic gig at the tiny Pryzm club in London on Friday evening. The set was similar to the one they played at the hall earlier in the week, but it did contain the first performance of The Who Sell Out‘s “Tattoo” since 2008. The song was also part of their set at Leeds back in 1970.
“My wife has tattoos of dogs and fairies and various things,” Pete Townshend told the crowd before playing the song.
