C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia is one of the most beloved children’s series and one of the best-known fantasy works in the history of literature. The stories of the Pevensie family and their friends and allies in the fictional world of Narnia are spread through seven books, starting with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950) and ending with The Last Battle (1956). The series is Lewis’ best-known work even today and while most people have been acquainted with it through the books, there are some who snuck into the world of Narnia via the film adaptations from several years ago.
Three movies were adapted back then and while there were plans to adapt The Silver Chair as well, these failed and in 2018, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to adapt the series in movie and television series format. As things stand now, the first...

I don’t know if Dark Horse is actually trying to adapt every last bit of short Neil Gaiman into comics form. He’s written a lot of stuff, and much of it wouldn’t adapt well. But it does feel like they’re trying, at least, with a long sequence of individual graphic novels and a few omnibuses stretching back more than a decade.
The grandly titled “Neil Gaiman Library” has mostly been stories that can turn into reasonable-length books. I’ve seen a bunch of them: A Study in Emerald ; Only the End of the World Again ; Chivalry ; Snow, Glass, Apples ; and Troll Bridge . But not all Gaiman stories can be fit into that length, no matter how hard Procrustes works.
So in 2019 we got The Problem of Susan and Other Stories , which includes adaptations of the title story, another short story, and two poems. Presumably, with this as a model,...

Daniel Raboldt’s low-budget but visually impressive film has more than a whisper of A Quiet Place about it, as two survivors fight their robotic overlords without making any noise
This plucky Kickstarter-funded German sci-fi from director Daniel Raboldt comes with a distinct whisper of A Quiet Place, as well as Luc Besson’s almost dialogue-free film The Last Battle. Taking place in a war-against-the-machines future, its purist approach poses a few storytelling challenges, leaving its two protagonists at times gesticulating at each other as if in a post-apocalyptic game of charades.
Tomasz (Stefan Ebel) is a survivor in a man v machine conflict in which the latter are decidedly on top. He hunkers down in an abandoned house in the wilderness, setting up a perimeter forcefield to protect himself. That done, there’s not much to do other than get high on a weird blue narcotic. But out inspecting his generators one day,...

Exclusive: Bryce and Jackie Zabel’s Stellar Productions is teaming with fledgling La production and management firm Alta Global Media on TV series Captured, based on the landmark 1961 alien abduction case of Betty and Barney Hill.
The project will chart the story of the interracial couple from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, who said they were captured by a UFO on the night of September 19, 1961. The story of the black postal clerk and white social worker who claimed to have met extraterrestrials became a media sensation, and culminated in a 1975 made-for-tv film starring James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons.
The project was previously set up by Zabel (Atlantis: The Lost Empire) with Gotham Group as a film but now has new life with Steven Adams (A Huey P. The third season of Rebels is finally exploring backstories. We saw characters' histories come to the fore in Hera's Heroes, we saw it in Zeb’s adventures with the Lasat, and now Sabine’s heritage becomes more important.
The last episode Sabine featured in alone was The Antilles Extraction, in which her skills were put to good use, but we didn’t learn a lot that we didn’t already know. Imperial Supercommandos was a good opportunity to show the audience what the Mandalorians are like, while also tying more cameo characters in to Rebels. 3.6 The Last Battle
The Last Battle is a farewell and a celebration, a re-creation of the Clone Wars in the days of the Empire. It’s also a re-creation of The Clone Wars in Rebels, with a lot to unpack about the relationship between the two shows and the dynasties they portray. Writer Brent Friedman paces the episode well and gives unique voices to both Rex and Ezra. However, those voices don’t quite match what came before, and the episode just barely touches on fascinating ideas about why the Republic fell, instead becoming an introspective story that leans on the fans’ (and crew members’) fondness for an earlier show.

Another character from the classic Clone Wars animated series is returning to join Ezra and co. for the highly anticipated third season of Star Wars Rebels. While speaking at Sydney Comic-Con (via Jedi News UK), Katee Sackoff (BSG, Longmire, Riddick) revealed that she'd one again lending her voice to the fierce Mandalorian, Bo-Katan Kryze. During the Clone Wars, Katan served under Pre Vizsla in the Mandalorian splinter group known as the Death Watch, but when her leader was killed by Darth Maul, she briefly joined forces with Obi-wan Kenobi. It remains to be seen which side she'll be on in Rebels, however. Though Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call launched for the 3Ds in North America last September, Square Enix has continued to periodically support the rhythm-based spinoff by releasing additional songs as downloadable add-ons. The latest batch of tracks arriving in Japan this week, and presumably in North America soon after, are a bit of a departure, though, as only one of the 6 songs comes from a Final Fantasy game. The others come from Square Enix’s own Romancing SaGa 3, the DS cult hit The World Ends With You, and the classic Super Nintendo game Chrono Trigger.

Today’s film is the 1981 short L’avant Dernier. The film stars Fabrice Roche, Pierre Jolivet, and Jean Reno, and is co-written by Jolivet and Besson, the latter of whom also directs. Besson has gained a reputation as the writer and director of numerous films over his career, including The Last Battle, a full-length adaptation of this short, along with La Femme Nikita, Léon: The Professional, The Transporter, and Colombiana. Brick Mansions, produced by Besson and using his screenplay for Banlieue 13, opened in wide release in American theatres this weekend.

"The Vampire Diaries" is no stranger to character deaths, and it seems that even when you're expecting or wanting a character to die, you're still hit with that emotional tsunami. Bonnie's funeral was absolutely no exception! Even though we all technically saw it coming and some of us welcomed it with open arms, it was by far the most emotional scene on The Vampire Diaries this season.

A couple of months ago it was announced that The Mark Gordon Company and the C.S. Lewis Company will team up to develop and produce the fourth film in the Narnia series, The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair.
Producers have hired Life of Pi writer David Magee to take on the next big screen adaptation. Magee received an Oscar nomination for his LIfe of Pi adaptation and for his 2004 Neverland screenplay. Here's what he had to say in a statement,
“I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday. All these years later, I’m getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of The Silver Chair and could not be more excited about it.”

When I read The Chronicles of Narnia for a book club I was surprised that I actually had not read them all as I had once thought, and just when I thought I had the formula down for C.S. Lewis’ writing it would take a twist I wasn’t expecting. I’m thrilled that after relatively successful movie adaptations of the first three books, they’re going ahead with the fourth, The Silver Chair. Here’s the official press release.

I’m sure that none of you have forgotten the first film in The Chronicles of Narnia series. It featured Liam Neeson as Lion/Christ figure Aslan, and Tilda Swinton as a Witch. There may have been wardrobe somewhere in there too. But it has been a while since the last chronicle in The Chronicles of Narnia; so long, in fact, that you might be forgiven for thinking that we’re unlikely to see the complete adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ Christian-themed fantasy series. You would be wrong though, as word has it that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair has gone into development.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair is finally being developed by the C.S. Lewis and Mark Gordon companies. The film will be based on the next book in the Narnia series, following The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. After an extensive press release extolling the...

Why do the last books in so many long-running fantasy series feature so much aimless wandering? Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, The Amber Spyglass, The Last Battle, hell, even The Return Of The King: All feature their fair share of scenes where the protagonists slog forward amid plenty of “I can’t go on!” “You must go on!” dialogue. Out Of Oz, the conclusion to Gregory Maguire’s Wicked Years—the four-book series that started with the musical-inspiring 1995 novel Wicked—seems particularly egregious in this regard. For more than half the book, the novel’s central characters wander ...

The announcement was made by Lionsgate’s co-coo and Motion Picture Group President Joe Drake. Doug Davison (The Departed, How To Train Your Dragon, The Grudge) will be producing through his Quadrant Pictures.
The Carnegie Medal winning books are set in a dystopian future with humans colonizing a distant earth-like planet. When an infection called the Noise suddenly makes all thought audible, privacy vanishes in an instant. In the ensuing chaos, a corrupt autocrat threatens to take control of the human settlements and wage war with the indigenous alien race, and only young Todd Hewitt holds the key to stopping planet wide-destruction.

Hollywoodnews.com: As studios continue snatching up literary series in hopes of finding the next “Twilight” or “Harry Potter” franchise, Lionsgate announces that it has acquired the Ya trilogy “Chaos Walking” for adaptation, and will begin with the opening book, “The Knife of Never Letting Go.”
Much like “The Hunger Games,” Patrick Ness’s story takes place in a dystopian future, only here, an infection called the Noise suddenly makes all thought audible, which means privacy has vanished.

It looks as though another young adult novel is being adapted for the screen. Comingsoon reports that Lionsgate has acquired worldwide rights to Patrick Ness's award-winning trilogy, Chaos Walking. I have not read the books, but can understand why studios are interested to duplicate the excitement for Gary Ross' Hunger Games adaptation.

Sensational, satisfying, surreal ... an explosive final chapter puts the magic back into the Harry Potter franchise. Warning: Contains Spoilers
"It all ends," says the poster slogan. A potentially grim statement of the obvious, of course, yet the Potter saga could hardly have ended on a better note. With one miraculous flourish of its wand, the franchise has restored the essential magic to the Potter legend – which had been starting to sag and drift in recent movies – zapping us all with a cracking final chapter, which looks far superior to Cs Lewis's The Last Battle or Jrr Tolkien's The Return of the King. It's dramatically satisfying, spectacular and terrifically exciting, easily justifying the decision to split the last book into two.
Here is where the Harry Potter series gets its groove back, with a final confrontation between Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) and our young hero, and with the sensational revelation of Harry's destiny,...

A collection of reviews have been rolling out for the most anticipated movie of the summer Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. I'm happy to tell you that they are all extremely positive. It never thought they would have screwed it up, but you never know these days. The film doesn't hit theaters until July 15th, and I can't wait to see the awesome conclusion to this incredible franchise myself.
Here's what the early reviews had to say about it. Check them out and hit us up in the comment section!
The Hollywood Reporter:
It ends well. After eight films in 10 years and a cumulative global box-office take of more than $6.3 billion, the most successful franchise in the history of movies comes to an obligatory -- and quite satisfying -- conclusion in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Fully justifying the decision, once thought purely mercenary, of splitting...

The most anticipated film of the year opens next week and the reviews have begun pouring in. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 won't hit theaters until July 15 but as many of us plan marathons in anticipation [1] of the opening, the first critics to see the film are mostly in agreement: The eighth and final Potter film is worth the wait. Just how good is it? Are there any flaws? Was the splitting of the two films the right call? Check out a bunch of reviews after the jump. Just a heads up that some of these snippets contain minor spoilers, and several of the reviews themselves contain major spoilers. Proceed with caution if you haven't read the book. Variety [2]: It's taken 10 years and nearly 20 hours of screen time for J.K. Rowling's towering fantasy saga to reach its cinematic conclusion. Yet as the final incantation is spoken...

The Voice saved the best for last. No, the show is far from over, but the Battle Round concluded last night and the field was cut to 16 hopefuls after four memorable duets featured perplexing costumes, stirring vocals, and a kiss that would’ve made Mitch & Mickey proud.
Jeff Jenkins dressed down for his duet of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” with the more-Elton inspired Casey Desmond, but boy’s got pipes to get away with it. Xenia and Sara Oromchi were tasked with a difficult song, “I’ll Stand By You,” that wouldn’t be any teen girl’s first choice.

In his homeland France, Luc Besson is regarded as a maker of mass market films. So what, he says, even Jean-Luc Godard is really a commercial director
In 2006, France's most commercially successful film-maker announced he had made his last movie. For more than a decade, Luc Besson had been saying he would only direct 10 films in his life, and he had reached his quota. Admittedly, Arthur and the Invisibles, a semi-animated children's adventure, was a bit of a whimper to go out on after hits such as The Big Blue, Léon and The Fifth Element, but, as Besson told the Guardian at the time: "I would rather stop too soon than too late." It was, it seems, too soon. Even if you count his two Arthur sequels as 10-and-a-half, Besson has gone way over quota, and is now back in town with not one but two brand new features.

When you have sold over 100 million copies in 47 languages and your books are taught in almost every 4th and 5th grade reading classes across the globe for their easy thematic interpretations, you would think adapting a series on the big screen wouldn’t be a hard thing to do. Unfortunately, Disney and Fox, rendered themselves to the creative group led by producer Mark Johnson, who just didn’t get the series’ tone, feel and thematic sensibilities right, especially in a time where we have already gotten an almost perfect adaptation of Lord of the Rings and a great series adaptation of Harry Potter.
After the third installment, delayed almost an extra year due to a studio change, mustered an embarrassing $27 million dollar opening this week, I think it’s time the rights holders, whether it be Johnson or Fox Walden, seriously evaluate their action plan for the future of the franchise.

With the new Chronicles of Narnia, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, hitting theaters this weekend, fans of the beloved book series will undoubtedly be flocking to it. While the franchise so far has been fairly successful, and something most people have looked forward to. However, the series is about to reach an odd stage where what happens in the books just won't work very well on-screen.
Up next in the series is The Silver Chair. It's a fun story (probably one of the best in series), that entails a search for Caspian's son, who went on a quest to avenge his mother 10 years previously but never came back. So once again, the story is jumping ahead in some significant time. The difference this time however, is none of the Pevensie kids are in this book. Instead Eustace (who makes his first appearance in Dawn Treader) takes up the lead role to save everyone.

Review in a Hurry: One of the best Narnia books arrives onscreen more significantly altered than its predecessors, and unfortunately, panders a little too much to its perceived audience. It's still a fun family adventure, but it could have (and should have) been better. The Bigger Picture: C.S. Lewis' Narnia books are widely thought to be overt Christian allegories, which they are up to a point: Aslan the lion is Jesus, and The Last Battle is an overly preachy reworking of the Book of Revelation. But it's dismissive to think that that's all he and his books were; he drew heavily from many other mythologies as well (the Roman god Bacchus shows up at one point, and not as a dig at paganism either). The...

The UK may be struggling to keep up with the rest of the world in the arena of football, but we’re at least producing some top quality actors. Here’s Matthew’s pick of upcoming talent…
In a review I read for the BBC film, Dive, it stated, "It is lucky that, at a time when we are failing miserably to produce young footballers, we are producing such wonderful young actors." I'm not exactly sure why one would make up for the other, but I agree with the assertion. We have some great young actors and our young footballers are rubbish. For me, that's the best way round, though.
Here's a list of ten young British actors whom I expect to be making big moves in the world of entertainment in the near future, if they aren't already. The list is based on some completely subjective criteria such as talent,...

As gimmicks go, this is a pretty cool one. At least if you speak French.
Cesar and BAFTA award winner Luc Besson, director of “La Femme Nikita,” “The Fifth Element” and “Le Dernier Combat,” is inviting the public to participate in the making of his next film by voting on the script, cast, music and other aspects of the production.
Of course, they’re welcome to invest in the movie as well.
And the first 10,000 will have their names included in the final credits, though Besson does not specify how long the names will appear ...

This morning I woke up to find a mysterious manila envelope slid under my door with only one thing written on it: “The Future.” Upon opening it I found a tiny flash drive that claimed on its label to be five hundred gigabytes worth of storage.
Consider me intrigued.
Crossing my fingers that someone wasn’t trying to give me a computer virus in a really roundabout way, I plugged it into my laptop and opened up the folder. Most of it was porn. But there was also one lone text file: “Summer Movie Preview 2020.”
After reading it, I knew I couldn’t keep it to myself. So, I present to you: one of those tedious summer movie preview articles, only…from the future.
Greetings, Internet! Or, at least, whoever pays their cable provider for the Deluxe Package that lets them visit more than just Facebook and Bing. Remember net neutrality?...

This Monday we can welcome Tom Hanks and Jason Statham into our living rooms as well as some smaller films that could be worth your attention. By far the most exciting aspect of the DVD new releases next week belongs to Luc Besson as 6 of his best films are re-issued. One of the 6 happens to be the brilliant Leon starring Jean Reno and a very young Natalie Portman.
