A memorable AFTERSCHOOL SPECIAL with now big name stars
mamamiasweetpeaches27 June 2004
while working on my '70s & '80s website I was thinking about some of the old AFTERSCHOOL SPECIALS I remembered. I could remember this ones plot and that it starred Michelle Pfeiffer, Val Kilmer and Mare Winningham...but I couldnt remember the title. Well...gotta love imdb....I did a Val Kilmer search and ONE TOO MANY came up. A lot of posters said they saw this in Drivers Ed. I didnt. I saw it on TV as an AFTERSCHOOL SPECIAl and I had it on vhs tape and watched it a few times. As I remember young not popular girls Michelle Pfeiffer and Mare Winningham are floored when two guys show interest in them. It becomes clear soon that the boy dating Pfeiffer (Val Kilmer!) is a drinker. Mare Winningham trys to talk some sense into Pfeiffer, but Pfeiffer, thrilled to finally have a boyfriend...doesnt heed the advice. One day he's drinking and Mare starts a fight with him. Someone storms out and the next thing we know Pfeiffer and Kilmer are in a moving car, Winningham runs into the road and SPLAT! So is there a lesson here? Of course. Its dont drink and drive and dont let your date drink and drive even if he's as cute as Val Kilmer. I would love to see this again. Im sure its nowhere as cool as I remember (are ANY AFTERSCHOOL SPECIALS???)

Saw This As An 10-Year Old! This Can Happen To You!

Warning: Spoilers
Before Michelle Pfeffier, Val Kilmer, and Mare Winningham became stars and that they starred in this After School special. About drunk driving as how four friends that are in HS.

Really end up ruining their potential future due to drinking and driving. If you think this can't happen to you. Well it can. As it happened to one of the characters. Who really did not drink. And chided the characters for doing both drinking and driving.

In the end, they will have to think about the consequences. About their actions. As they show young people that it can happen to you. Saw this as a 10-year old in the mid 1980s. Really an eye opener for all to see this. Showing that it can happen!

Not Too Bad, Interesting, connects with today's teens.

One Too Many was an interesting show that is good for a Driver's Ed class or just to watch. It shows what Alcohol can do. Eric was a drinker and his girlfriend lets him. Their best friends try to stop them, but they just don't get through to him.

It's better than the other movie we watched in Driver's Ed even if we didn't get to finish it. I thought Beth and Tim were pretty cute together and I can relate to her and the way she reacted to every thing going on around her. I thought they were both pretty dumb for agreeing to go out with Eric and Tim so fast though (Hello? You never go out with strangers, even ones your own age!). So, yeah. It's better than some anti-drinking movies I can think of.

Too Much

I saw this movie in my driver's education class sophomore year. Honestly, the movie actually made a point, but the acting was awful. The weird thing is it has some of the movie industry most talented actors in the roles. It's odd that I responded to that movie as being stupid. The message isn't. It was just the way it was portrayed.

Great for a driver's ed class to see

One of the better anti-drunk driving shows out there. I didn't like the casting, a bunch of obvious adults playing teens?? Even if they all ended up major Hollywood stars! The ending was very out of the ordinary for these types of educational teen afterschool specials, and much more realistic.
