Thomas is given the special job of collecting The Lion of Sodor statue. However, he is not aware that it's a statue and inadvertently covers it in syrup, fish and straw.
James is painted pink and is most embarrassed. He spends the day trying to hide from the other engines instead of doing his very important job. Eventually, he learns that pink is not such a silly colour, after all.
Thomas is given a strange-looking funnel when his is cracked. He then has to take Mr. Bubbles' bubble liquid to the showground, but ends up spilling it all over the road, which causes problems for Sir Topham Hatt and Mr. Bubbles.
While Percy is at the Sodor Steamworks being repaired, Thomas is excited to be given the job of doing the mail run for him. Gordon tells Thomas to ask Percy for advice, but Thomas thinks he knows all about how to deliver the mail.
Thomas is asked by Farmer Trotter to collect some straw for the piglets, which are soon to be born. But on the way, Thomas sees other things he thinks the piglets will like.
Thomas ignores some track repair signs and derails his truck of storybooks. Since he can no longer take the books to the children, he decides to bring the children to the books.
Thomas invents a game which involves splashing other engines with muddy puddles, but he ends up taking the game too far and splashes the Fat Controller and famous opera singer Alicia Botti.
It's a great day for Sodor because Hiro is returning to the Island! Sir Topham Hatt tells Thomas and Percy that he is organizing a welcoming party for Hiro at Knapford and Thomas is to tell all the other engines to gather for it.
At Knapford Station, Hiro sees that Sir Topham Hatt is very busy because he is in a rush to see his brother. Hiro decides he will help Sir Topham Hatt, by making decisions for him in his absence!
