Wolfgang Hohlbein’s fantasy novel has been adapted by Amazon Prime, as the streaming platform just released the limited series The Griffin this week. Originally in German, the limited series has six episodes with a runtime of 40 minutes each. Based in the ’90s, the series showcases the adventures of three kids, Mark, Memo, and Becky, as they try to save the world from an apocalyptic creature called The Griffin. It’s up to these 16-year-olds to stop a winged monster from entering the realm of humans and capturing it, but how are they supposed to accomplish such a monumental task? Armed with magic weapons and an ancient book, of course. The show captures the ’90s vibe perfectly, with the old instruments and the music of that day and age, and the monster designs are also very impressive, although the story remains a little jagged around the edges. Here’s what...

In May, Prime Video will return to the world of live awards shows as it again broadcasts the Academy of Country Music Awards on May 11. The major event will be hosted by country-music superstars Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks. The 58th ACM Awards will stream live from The Star in Frisco, Texas. One of the benefits of an awards show on a streaming service is that it doesn’t run commercials. If Prime Video continues the tradition it started last year, the ACMs will utilize the entire venue to keep the action moving throughout the show.
Coming to the streaming service in May is Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom,” a charming, stylized coming-of-age adventure about two offbeat 12-year-olds (played by Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman) who find solace in each other. Their touching romance is a potent reminder that love comes at all ages — and adults have much to learn from children.

Mystery fans, rejoice!!
There's a new Acorn TV Original right around the corner, and it's very, very good.
P.D. James wrote 14 novels based on detective and poet Adam Dalgliesh, and the new series simply goes by the title Dalgliesh.
Bertie Carvel is bringing the enigmatic yet emotionally intelligent and empathetic Dalgliesh to life in a season set in 1970s England.
Dalgliesh specializes in solving unusual murders. The cases may sound relatively benign, but they unfold unusually and strike a chord with the viewer.
We'll first meet Dalgliesh looking into the murder of a nursing student poisoned to death during a live training demonstration (it's a death that sticks with you!).
Another investigation will involve the murders of a homeless man and a recently resigned Tory MP whose throats were slit in a London church.
Dalgliesh will also be called upon to solve a series of suspicious deaths at a home for the disabled.

Strange & Norrell closes with a terrific finale. Are we likely to see anything as imaginative and accomplished as it again soon? Unlikely…
This review contains spoilers.
1.7 Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
By the Raven King’s silky tresses, that was a class act.
Start to finish, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell did an improbable number of things right. The story and dialogue darted along, the direction never failed to impress or the special effects to convince, and the cast… well, that cast. Can we put the whole team under an enchantment binding them together forever? Until they reunite to expertly spin us another tale, Sunday nights on BBC One should be left empty as a mark of respect, like the favourite restaurant table of a beloved departed guest.
Last week’s belter of a penultimate episode had left things on an ominous note. We’d been led to expect a magical duel in the finale,...

I'm sure it's the same for many, but my first exposure to the wonderful world of RPGs was Final Fantasy VII. I remember picking my copy up from Sears (yeah, there was a time when picking up a game from Sears wasn't so unheard of) not knowing how much my perception of gaming would change as a result. Now RPGs are a regular ongoing part of my gaming lifestyle, but seeing The Black Tower in action brings a bit of nostalgia for how I felt back then, and some of the mechanics that have fallen by the wayside in more modern RPGs.
As you can tell from the trailer, it isn't hard to spot the homage the game and its developers are attempting to make. Created by 2 french freelancers and 1 programmer, with the full development only starting in February, the game is a mix of turn based combat, exploration of...

Fast Five director Justin Lin has signed a deal with Universal Pictures that will keep him visiting The Black Tower for at least the next two years. It makes considerable sense for Universal to have made Lin happy: Fast Five has grossed over $605 million dollars worldwide and is the #1 box office champ for the franchise. Lin also directed the third and fourth movies in the series.
He's committed to direct Fast and the Furious 6, as the six-quel is being referred to now, for a May 24, 2013 release date. Also happening for his Universal bosses is a science fiction concept being developed by Lin's former assistant Robert Glickert and a movie about the 442nd Infantry, an all-Japanese American squad of soldiers that fought in World War II.
One movie that Lin remains attached to is Terminator 5. While the rights for Terminator don't reside at Universal, there's always a possibility that Lin's...
