Beyond just the standard trailer(s) and poster, many films have an entire promotional campaign designed to spark interest. Here’s a look at ten film promotional campaigns which should have stayed on the drawing board.
Selling a movie is not an easy task, and over the years it has not gotten any easier. Promotional campaigns have to be very creative and persistent in order to capture people’s attention amid the sea of advertising we are flooded with on a daily basis. Common tactics include giveaways, publicity stunts, viral marketing techniques, sponsorships, and product tie-ins. Many films try to push the boundaries of traditional promotional campaigns in an effort to get an edge on the competition. Below is a brief look at ten campaigns (in no particular order) which definitely pushed the envelope, but doing so did more harm than good for the films they were trying to promote.

Lots of films are dedicated to, or in memory of someone. But it's not always clear why. We've been finding out...
Back when Breaking Bad returned for its final batch of episodes in August 2013, it had a dedication at the end of it. The card read 'Dedicated to our friend Kevin Cordasco'. As it turned out, Kevin Cordasco was a 16-year old who had been battling cancer for seven years, who had met both Bryan Cranston and Vince Gilligan. Cordasco died before he could ever get to see the episode dedicated to him.
I found this such a moving story, that it got me wondering about the dedications that appear on films, and what the story behind them was. After all, the dedications are there for a reason. What I uncovered was some funny stories, mainly extremely sad ones, and some extremely moving dedications.

This publicity stunt is pretty weak in itself, but what makes it even more lame is that Rogue Pictures is attempting to turn it into a fake or real controversy. Rogue tweeted a link to a video from the 'My Soul to Take' New York premiere. It's business as usual for the cast and writer-director Wes Craven, but in the middle of a photo-op two guys engage in a poorly acted brawl during which one pulls a rubber knife on the other and "stabs" him. Even worse, this is the video description:
Omg! tonight some dude was stabbed on the red carpet in front of Wes Craven and the whole cast of the movie. it was Insane! Cops were all over the place but the guy with the knife got away. the trailer for the film looks good but do you think they will still release the movie?...
