Sex & Nudity

  • Outside of Vicky's apartment when the Joker enters and leaves you can see a painting of naked woman right behind the Joker's back with exposed nipples.
  • During their first date, Bruce and Vicki get tipsy and Vicki spends the night at his home. They flirt with each other and then kiss passionately. The next scene cuts to them lying in bed with Vicki fully clothed and Bruce with and open shirt. It is confirmed they had sex when Bruce has a conversation with Vicki in her apartment and she says "I can't believe I slept with you".
  • In the scene when Vale and Knox meet, Knox says, "Listen, If you want me to pose nude your going to need a long lense." It is played for comedic affect.

Violence & Gore

  • While battling the Joker's henchman in a cathedral, Batman battles one henchman and is smashed through wooden structures until he gains the upper hand by throwing the henchman down the stairway to his presumed death.
  • Jack Napier shoots at Batman, the bullet flies back in the face of Jack and blood splatters out. Both his cheeks are somewhat mangled.
  • An acrobat with knives attached to his boots tries to stab Batman but Batman tazes him in the crotch and knocks him unconscious.
  • Batman uses martial arts techniques in numerous fight scenes throughout the film.
  • Many people are shot dead during the film.
  • A man's face is bloodied and burned after a ruptured pipe spews chemicals onto it.
  • The Joker electrocutes a man and there are several shots of his charred and blackened corpse.
  • The Joker stabs somebody in the throat with a quill pen.
  • The Joker carries a pistol and uses it many times throughout the film.
  • A factory full of the Joker's henchmen is blown up, and the occupants are presumably killed in the blast.
  • The Joker shoots down the Batwing, and when Batman emerges from the flaming wreckage his face has several bloody gashes on it. These injuries can clearly be seen on his face for the remaining duration of the film.
  • At the end of the film Batman beats up the Joker. He punches him repeatedly and at one point smashes his head through a wall. The Joker's face is bloodied and bruised from this, and he is seen spitting mouthfuls of blood onto the floor.

Profanity

  • A few uses of ''damn'', ''hell'', ''sh*t", and 1 use of ''son of a b*tch". A few religious blasphemies.
  • 3 uses of shit 5 uses of crap

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Two muggers are seen counting their loot on a rooftop. One of them is smoking a cigarette.
  • Eckhardt is shown smoking a cigar, which he aggressively flicks at Knox.
  • There is a party scene where characters are seen drinking champagne.
  • Grissom gulps down a glassful of whisky and is seen reaching for the bottle to pour himself a refill.
  • The Joker is seen drinking a martini when Alicia returns from her shopping trip.
  • Harvey Dent is seen smoking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Joker uses his deadly laughing gas to kill two models and a news anchor. Pictures of the models' bodies are seen with creepy smiles, and the news anchor is shown laughing herself to death. Her body is also shown with a disturbing and unnatural smile.
  • Bruce Wayne's parents get murdered. A gun is pointed at a child Bruce Wayne.
  • This film as a whole has a very dark and foreboding tone (comparable to the Nolan trilogy), but some of it is balanced with some sense of humor.
  • Alicia removes her mask to reveal her acid-scarred face. It is implied that she is consensual to Joker's unseen mutilation of her face. It is later implied that she commits suicide at Joker's behest.
  • Some of the fight scenes are intense. Especially one towards the end of the film where a particularly large Joker thug wearing sunglasses goes berserk and almost kills Batman, at one point slamming him into a wall and repeatedly punching him.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • The Fight scene with the henchman who wears sunglasses is very intense. He grabs Batman on the neck, throws him through wooden structures and brutally punch him several times in the stomach, and two times in the face. The last punch is into the groin, then the henchman knees Batman into the face.
  • At the ending after Batman punches the Joker his bloody teeth falls out of his mouth. It's turns out to be a toy
  • The Wayne couple is shot and killed by a petty thief, leaving Bruce alone with his dead parents. There are several fighting scenes that include Batman, most of which involve the Joker and his henchmen.
  • The Joker wears a flower on his lapel that shoots acid. We see the scars on his mistress' face which are presumably the result of an acid attack.
  • The Joker plummets to his death at the end of the film. We do not see him hit the ground, but we get a lingering shot of his broken corpse partially embedded in the pavement below, with some blood around the head area.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Jack Napier is dropped, accidentally, into a vat of chemicals that seemingly kill him. It is then revealed that he survives with a shot of his hand coming out of Axis Chemicals' reservoir.
