Sex & Nudity

  • Many of the series female antagonists are dressed provocatively.
  • The Specter Sisters have brief nude scenes when they are healed
  • In Season 3, both Messiahs are depicted as nude women. There is no graphic genitalia.
  • The last episode showed Usagi completely nude, but this was done in a mannequin-style rather than in a sexual way.
  • Several characters often make references. An example of a character would be Minako Aino
  • Characters are seen wearing short/ cut clothing
  • A rape scene occurs in season 2. The scene is not mentioned again after the episode.
  • Characters share beds and homes
  • The show has a fair amount of fan service, mostly skirts and costumes
  • Character Ami Mizuno is seen completely naked. This scene is not sexual in anyway, it's supposed to be for purity.
  • Contains only very mild stylised nudity throughout the course of the series.
  • Transformation sequences depict the Sailor Guardians nude, however, their bodies are bathed in white. The shape of their breasts and buttocks are occasionally visible. Throughout the second season, several villains undergo a brief purification process in which their naked bodies spin around before returning to their ordinary states. Nipples are depicted in some of these sequences, however, any such nudity is very brief and presented in a fantastical, non-eroticised fashion.
  • Also contains infrequent "fan-service" (shots common in anime) in the form of panty shots and the like. Such shots are usually incidental and are not prolonged.
  • One episode is shown Usagi naked holding luna but this is not sexual.
  • Also contains infrequent very mild naturalistic nudity.
  • Chibiusa has some panty shots which is kinda creepy considering she's only a young girl.
  • Esmurade is scene once in the bath, not that sexual, though.

Violence & Gore

  • Some episodes throughout the series contain main characters in intense pain, usually when they are being "tortured" by a monster or villain. This is always depicted in the form of electrical shocks and is not gory at all. They tend to be quickly saved by other characters and are usually fine afterwards.
  • Usagi was very clumsy in the 1st season, so she got hurt a lot.
  • Death is a key element of the following show, the vast majority of characters perish. Deaths are gory
  • Some cartoon violence and a lot of fantasy weapons, elements, and different-styled attacks.
  • Contains mild animated fantasy violence and threat throughout the course of the series.
  • Unrealistic beasts and supernatural entities are fought with fantastical projectiles and weapons. Also contains moments of hand-to-hand combat. Monsters generally disintegrate into sparkling particles when killed.
  • One of the more violent scenes in the series occurs when a character is impaled by spears formed from a tree. Green blood gushes from their body and they die as their body disintegrates in an unrealistic fashion. A main character is bereaved by their death.

Profanity

  • Sailor moon uses "bastard" once in one of the english dub episodes (Sailor Moon R).
  • Infrequent coarse language throughout with varying uses of the words "damn", "hell", "bitch" and "bastard", and some coarse language like "shit" or "asshole". A few episodes have more profanity than others.
  • Luna called Artemis a pervert.
  • Several F bombs are dropped in the sub, foreign languages vary
  • A high quantity of 'references' are made, younger characters replace the F bomb with 'fudge' or 'fudging'.
  • H*ll is mentioned
  • The DIC Entertainment and Cloverway dubs do not contain any profanity. The Viz dub contains some mild language.
  • Ass is said in the Viz dub
  • Most episodes has TV-PG, however, a few episodes has TV-14
  • Contains only infrequent mild coarse language throughout the series.
  • Most episodes do not contain any coarse language whatsoever, however, a few episodes contain passing uses of terms such as "damn" "hell" "pissed" and sometimes "ass" in the subtitles. They are not accurate translations, as you will notice more if you speak Japanese.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A 14 year old girl accidentally gets drunk twice.
  • Villains smoke and characters drink
  • Contains only infrequent depictions of tobacco or alcohol consumption. Such instances are not emphasised and are portrayed only to depict realistic adult behaviour. The work as a whole does not endorse or promote substance abuse.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In the first season, a brainwashed main character tries to attack and kill the other main characters.
  • One of the villains reveals himself writhing strangely and making disturbing sounds.
  • Bright blood and cuts are shown
  • Suicide is common in Sailor moon
  • Almost every episode contains a sense of threat or menace that may frighten very young viewers. Season finales usually contain more intense depictions of violence, and the main characters are usually threatened or otherwise plunged into perilous situations wherein their lives are in danger.
  • There is an underlining theme of the supernatural, especially with death busters the new evil Organisation.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • The last episode contains the most nudity, Usagi is completly nude throughout most of the episode. However, there are no nipples or genitalia.
  • There are usually kissing and so called 'make out scenes' throughout seasons 2 - 5, season 1 does not feature as much.

Violence & Gore

  • There is A LOT of people getting hurt. But MOST of the time this is played for laughs.
  • The vast majority of the characters die/ perish at least once in the series. Some do NOT come back and very few of the characters are immortal.
  • Deaths and season finales are emotional
  • Civilian street fights and brawls are common too, NOT just the villain and hero fights.
  • In some dubs blood is censored to prevent 'fear', mostly due to the high amount of blood loss.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Chibiusa holds a gun at Usagi's head. But there were no bullets as it had a flower instead.
  • Deaths and the final few seasons are really intense.
  • The death busters go to great extents to remove characters hearts. As the hearts are often 'removed' they are converted into crystal to censor them.
  • Haruka (while in civilian form) saves a child from dying, the child turns out to be a monster. Haruka is attacked. Fortunately, Neptune saves her, although the two are covered in a fair amount of blood.
