Very Good Documentary

Warning: Spoilers
This is an excellent documentary on the JFK Assassination and one of the key players in the years that followed. What I found most interesting about the Jim Garrison Tapes is that we were, for once, allowed to hear Garrison speak for himself. In most of the documentaries, we are told what to think about Garrison and he is given only cursory time (mostly unflattering sound bites). At least in this particular documentary, we viewers are allowed to listen to him and see for ourselves whether or not he was really a crusader or a mad man.

I found the Garrison Tapes to be worthwhile for two other reasons as well. First, one finds a great deal of footage on the assassination not found anywhere else, and second, we are able to see the costs of obsession on a key player. I was most moved by the final few minutes of the documentary when we were able to hear from Garrison's children and from Big Jim as well about how the assassination and his subsequent investigation affected their lives. Very touching.

When the movie 'JFK' came out, everybody spent so much time bashing it, I had no clue what the plot was. Not long after after 'JFK' was released, I watched this on a movie channel, having no clue what this was about. I must admit, after seeing this, I have to really question the Warren Commission's findings. Almost everything that was said was documented. The people like Herald Wiseberg, and Fletcher Prouty were compelling. Then I saw 'JFK'! All of this lead me to do my own research into this, including watching 'The Men Who Killed Kennedy', by Nigel Turner.

Whatever you think happened to John Kennedy, see this, and I think you will agree that the Warren Commission was at least wrong!

JFK assassination 101 (web)

With all those books and movies, this tragedy appears like taking a true course in Law, politics, criminal investigation. It's like a maze, every fact, every one can be contradicted. This documentary is interesting as it's an excellent visual companion to the book written by the man having engaged the only one legal action about this case!

What are my conclusions ? The attorney says that the company did it. If it wasn't true, why all his moles in his office and the libels attack against him ? Could those tactics come from the usual culprits : LHO ? Organized crime ? Soviet Block ? The second interesting fact was Shaw's involvement : it's true that it's a bit loose to tie him clearly with conspiracy of murder on the only basis he knew LHO. But it's also clear that he knew LHO and as he was a company man, Garrison is right that he had for mission to give LHO a communist look. It's exactly what happened to LHO when leaving New Orleans and going to Mexico.

What's totally revealing here (and funny) is that in Mexico, the company man in charge of this re-looking was « Maurice Bishop » (read Gaeton Fonzi's investigation), the close to be mastermind behind the coup and the really first interview in the documentary ! Having this man introduced the documentary may be not so coincidental so?
