Busy's drum playing is annoying everyone in her family. She moves her practicing to school and meets an older boy, Peter. They bond over music and he asks her to play drums for him. Peter starts showing signs of having anger management issues. When Busy is over at Peter's house, she sees that Peter gets his temper from his father and later sees the aftermath of his angry outburst. Busy chooses to tell the school councilor about what she saw.
1994
Busy's family is sitting down for Chinese takeout when her father gets a phone call from her mother (who has been away at her mother's house) and she tells them that she is coming home. Busy gets the house in order while waiting. The Ramones have a sit down and Mrs. Ramone agrees to only move back if everyone goes to Family Therapy. With the therapist, the Ramones begin to air their grievances. The therapist gives each family member "homework" for the week. Back at the house, Mrs. Ramone tells everyone that she is moving back in but that things need to change. The next evening, Busy makes dinner for the family and things are a bit quiet and awkward. Busy tries to keep the peace with everyone. The family agrees that the workload around the house should be divided equally to maintain fairness.

Amanda tries to reinvent her style when she sees some hurtful graffiti about the way she dresses. Her hopes of asking her parents for additional clothing allowance are dashed when her dad comes home and reveals that he's been fired. Eager to help, Amanda lies about her age in order to start a waitress job, much to the delight of Chrissy and her friends. The owner soon discovers Amanda's true age and fires her instantly. She is then forced to enter a dance marathon with Busy in the hopes of scooping the $1000 prize fund.

Busy and Amanda are reading a romance novel and start talking about love and sex. Amanda has an embarrassing encounter with her parents. Amanda avoids talking to her father about it. Later, Amanda is babysitting and Busy comes over to hang out. The girls stumble on a sex guide and hide it so they won't get caught looking at it. Amanda struggles with keeping the book hidden when she discovers that it's fallen into someone else's hands. Busy attempts to ask her brother Dom about sex but is interrupted. Amanda must eventually face the music with her parents. After a frank discussion with her mother, Amanda's tension is released. Busy and Amanda then talk about their futures.

Busy thinks about trying out for the basketball team. Troy has a girl for a lab partner, who is also black, and Busy starts to feel insecure about her relationship with Troy. Things get tense when Eve, Troy's lab partner, starts to compete with Busy for Troy's attention. The girls begin to bicker after a game a fling racial slurs at each other. Eve gets the upper hand by telling Troy about Busy being racist. Busy gets ousted from the team but ultimately decides to participate in the next game. Eve admits to saying racially insensitive things about Busy in front of Troy. Eve and Busy try to realize that their issue is less about race and more about fighting over a boy.
