Spanish national treasure Javier Bardem became emotional Friday night as he gushed over his wife, Penélope Cruz, while accepting his Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 San Sebastian Film Festival.
Bardem, who has had starring roles in Dune: Part Two, No Country for Old Men — which bagged him an Academy Award — and Skyfall, among myriad celebrated Spanish projects like Huevos de Oro and El detective y la muerte, accepted the award from his siblings, Monica and Carlos Bardem, who paid tribute to their brother at the Kursaal Theater during the opening night gala.
Bardem referenced his Silver Shell win for best actor 30 years ago, nearly to the day, in 1994. “It was the beginning of a great friendship with this beautiful film festival that has given so much to me personally and professionally,” the actor said.

Jk Simmons has big plans to unleash his inner villain in the upcoming thriller, "The Woods." Starring alongside Allen Leech ("Downton Abbey"), Fernanda Urrejola ("Cry Macho"), and Isabelle Anaya ("Donny's Bar Mitzvah"), Simmons plays a murderous sociopath on a rampage. Earlier this year, he flexed his muscles in "The Tomorrow War" and has previously shown some sociopathic tendencies in "Whiplash," so this feels like a pretty solid fit for Jk Simmons, a man with a certain air of intimidation surrounding him.

The strangeness of Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho cannot be boiled down to any one thing — there’s a lot going on — but its origins as a movie, one starring and directed by this particular Hollywood figure, no less, are surprisingly scattered. In so many ways, the movie plays like a straight shot of Eastwood on Eastwood, an act of summary, revision, and rhyme that almost could have been shocked to life by Doctor Frankenstein. Its components — its tropes and genre scaffolding, its shambly yet economical ease, so characteristic of...

Clint Eastwood must know he’s getting close to the end. Watching him onscreen in Cry Macho, the 45th directorial credit in a storied career that’s spanned six decades, he brings a sense of contentment and poignancy to every scene. Once wily and horny, his smile seems peaceful and less aggressive. If the tall man with no name is now hunched over and frail, he moves slowly—not only from necessity but because he’s simply in no rush. There are no more battles to fight, only horizons to watch. “I don’t know how to cure old,” he says at one point, in what has to be the most empathetic line delivery of his career.
With Cry Macho, the legendary auteur wants us to know these are not by any means tragic developments. This is a reverie, not a requiem. Clunky and cranky in the most charming of ways,...

As we fast approach the WWE annual event known as Royal Rumble, it’s a good time to look back on all the previous shows. I’ve been doing just that. I’ve seen each event countless times, but I always enjoy going back in time to re-watch Royal Rumble shows, good or bad, from the past. Beginning in 1988, it was Pat Patterson who came up with the concept of the Royal Rumble match, and it’s been a hugely popular match and Pay-per View ever since. Fans love the idea of not knowing who is coming out next in the big thirty-man (and now thirty-woman) match. Surprises often occur, returns happen and the good guys and bad guys of the company all hit the ring for a big brawl to determine who will go to WrestleMania to face the Champ. The stipulation of winning a shot at the World...

Lyon, France – Javier Bardem charmed his audience at a masterclass during the Lumière Film Festival on Monday, eliciting laughter with stories of his youth, learning English by way of AC/DC, his famous family and expounding on the talent, compassion and genius of the filmmakers with whom he has worked, among them Bigas Luna, Julian Schnabel, the Coen brothers and Woody Allen.
Bardem reiterated his support for Allen, who directed the Oscar-winning Spanish actor in 2008’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” saying he would work with him again at a day’s notice.
“He’s a genius,” Bardem said, adding that in this time of the Me Too movement, “I would work with him tomorrow.” He stressed that Allen’s legal status today has not changed since the last they worked together in 2007 and noted that the director had never been found guilty of any crime. “Today, 11 years later, it is the same accusation.

The “Crazy in Love” singer and her “No Church in the Wild” rapper beau showed up at the UEFA Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain Fc and Fc Barcelona at Parc Des Princes in Paris where they sat next to Golden Balls and chatted throughout the evening.
Also in the house was former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who kept cracking up at all of Jay’s jokes.
In the end, it seemed that Paris Saint-Germain benefitted from Becks’ presence (he used to play for the team) as they topped Barcelona 3-2.

On Saturday, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney scored a screamer from the half-way line with pundits instantly drawing comparisons to a certain David Beckham goal 18 years ago.
For Rooney, the opponents were Sam Allardyce’s West Ham. For Beckham, Joe Kinnear’s Wimbledon hosted a United side far different to the one we see today.
Yet the similarities were stark.
Nearly 20 years ago, ‘Golden Balls’ scored a famously-audacious goal in August 1996 from inside his own half by lobbing goalkeeper Neil Sullivan with a worldy.
And this weekend, Rooney re-produced a near carbon copy by chipping Adrián from just inside West Ham’s half after catching the Spaniard wandering off his line.
The moment Rooney’s 57-yard screamer bounced into the Hammers goal, cameras instantly pointed to Beckham, who was in attendance at Upton Park and offered a wry smile.

Earlier this month, Becks announced that he’s hanging up his cleats and retiring as a professional soccer player.
David explained, “It's been very special to finish my career here. It could not have been any more special. I just feel that it's the right time [to retire]. I feel that I've achieved everything that I could in my career. I wanted to go out as a champion.

Mr. Golden Balls himself showed Brooklyn , Romeo, and Cruz how to take their soccer game to the next level on the pitch at Cam des Loges while fans stood by and cheered.
Meanwhile, it seems Psg has been trying everything possible to get Becks to stay on the squad when his short-term contract runs out at the end of the season.
David explained, “The owners and the manager have made it very clear that they would like me to stay. I’m very touched and very honored by that.
“It has been an amazing time so far. Hopefully we’ll be successful, then we’ll make the decision on what I do. I’m 38 in May and you get a reminder of your age every now and again but I’m enjoying playing.

Acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Bigas Luna has died aged 67. The Catalan director had been battling leukemia.Like his peer Pedro Almodóvar, Luna was a key voice in the new wave of Spanish filmmaking that emerged under the shadow of General Franco's repressive regime. He started out as a student of conceptual art and design, taking an early interest in visual technologies that would play into a lifelong passion for painting and photography. Luna's filmmaking career began with low-budget flick Bilbao in 1978, a typically unrestrained, psychosexual drama, before 1981's Reborn - his only English-language film - pitched Dennis Hopper, a phony televangelist, into a relationship with a real faith healer. Anguish (1987) saw Luna turn out a Lynchian horror set in a movie theatre that would go on to achieve cult status.Arguably, his purple patch stretched across a loose trilogy that began with 1981's Jamón, Jamón. That was followed by Golden Balls and,...

Spanish film director whose 'Iberian passion' trilogy began with Jamon Jamon
For 39 years, under General Francisco Franco's repressive regime, it was almost impossible for Spain to create a vibrant film industry and for talented film-makers to express themselves freely. However, after the death of the Generalissimo in 1975, there was a burst of creativity, with Pedro Almodóvar paving the way for directors such as Bigas Luna, who has died of cancer aged 67.
After some years as a conceptual artist who experimented with new audio-visual media, Luna became known internationally for his "Iberian passion" feature film trilogy: Jamon Jamon (1992), Golden Balls (1993) and The Tit and the Moon (1994), which explored the darkest depths of eroticism and stereotypical Spanish machismo. The first film introduced Penélope Cruz to audiences and launched Javier Bardem as the embodiment of the Spanish stud. "I owe my career to Bigas Luna," Bardem said in 2001.

Sir Alex Ferguson is rarely questioned over his decisions throughout his two-decade reign at Old Trafford.
This is a man who is generally regarded as the greatest football manager of all time, a man who has brought 12 Premier League titles, 5 Fa Cups, 4 League Cups, 10 Community Shields and two Champions Leagues to the Theatre of Dreams, transforming the Red Devils into one of England’s most serial silverware winners and knocking Liverpool well and truly off their perch as the most successful club team in England – domestically speaking at least.
Yet for all his accomplishments, he isn’t completely infallible. He is capable of making mistakes just like the rest of us, whether it was by losing his temper and kicking a boot at David Beckham’s head, later leading to ‘Golden Balls’ walking out on the club, or by making a really bad judgement in the transfer window, there have been errors down the line.

Hard at work on his soccer skills, David Beckham hit the pitch for practice with his Paris Saint-Germain teammates at Camp des Loges in Paris, France yesterday (April 1).
The man known as “Golden Balls” looked to be in fine form as he ran drills and stayed in top shape ahead of the UEFA Champions quarter-final match against Fc Barcelona.
Meanwhile, David recently told press that though he’s not holding his breath, he’d definitely accept an offer to return to his home country of England to play someday.
“I’m almost 38 so the chances are very slight, but you never know. One of the reasons I never retired from the England team is because, if there’s ever an opportunity to play for them again, I’m available.”...

He’s never been shy about showing off his killer physique, so when David Beckham heard rumors that he’d used a body double in his H&M underwear campaign, he was quick to set the record straight.
During a live interview on French television, the Paris Saint-Germain stud definitively declared that the ad is pure Golden Balls.
David stated, “No. I can say the crotch is mine and the backside is mine as well. Someone said that I had a stand-in for my bum, but no, I can confirm that’s my bum.”
As for the allegations that he signed with Psg for purely financial reasons, Becks noted, “If I can help to sell lots of shirts, no problem. Even better! It’s great to see so many people wearing my shirt. In most of the clubs where I’ve been, I heard the same thing - that I’ve come to sell shirts.
