Domestic Violence exposed in all it's ugliness ...
Redbreast77711 August 2001
A very believable telling of one woman's descent into hell on earth. The frightening thought - is it happening next door to you too? The film does not skim over the gory details - be prepared. Low budget, not glossy, but definitely makes it's point. The one thing marginally lacking, given the enlightened 90's, is an acknowledgment that spousal violence, as wrong as it is, is an offense committed by both genders.

gritty and refreshingly realistic

I really felt that I had "seen" the inside of a person who was uncontrollably violent...especially to those closest to him.

Anyone who was "on the cusp" of feeling/acting as Paul Stamper did would be almost forced to notice the danger signs within him/her self.

I for one, am glad that the producer didn't put a "politically correct", childish warning or disclaimer in the show....it would have no effect on other violent people and personally, I don't need their moralizing or warnings.....realism speaks a thousand times more effectively than blatant warnings.

It was really nice to see Cindy Williams. She is aging gracefully & showing her talent depth.

Only one upsetting fact bothered me.....these people, victim's and perpetrator, were young....35 years?....This dangerous man will be out in far less than that, and the victim's will undoubtedly go through their fear...all over again.

Warning: Spoilers
Introduced by the woman who the story is about it wastes no time getting there. No useless bedroom boring nonsense this was not about a happy marriage even in the first week when the husband hits the wife across the face and is shocking enough to her own mother as to talk about her divorcing him! However his apologies and gifts-as it goes on we gather he is something of a thief as well-work for about a week before he belts her again this time in public. She is now seriously thinking of ending this loser marriage even though a baby now appears-which she wants to take away in case he attacks the child! And so it goes on-he becomes a phone pest and a restraining order is taken out which has little effect on him as he tracks the woman down and ends up shooting her new boyfriend before kidnapping her.

Inside a jail he bribe a trusty to let him escape though we don't see how its done-do trusties have copies of the keys I wonder? Anyway this is 5 years later and the Law decides to put his photo in a TV program like Crime Watch. Which leads to the final arrest (Spoilers don't account for much when all this stuff was in the news in the 90s so its a well known case)
