Violence & Gore

  • in the beginning of the film English come to trade with a tribe of natives, but in fact they are also plotting to kidnap some of the natives. they achieve this by lying and telling the natives to come aboard their ship to receive their goods.
  • once on the ship Squanto sees his friend Epenow tied up with a gag in his mouth. no sooner the English begin to seize the natives and force them into submission, one native is held and punched twice. some natives escape the capture and jump overboard.
  • arrows are fired at the ship and cannons are used against the natives who pursue the English ship.
  • Epenow bites Sir George when he tries to take away a pouch around his neck.
  • there is a scene in which Squanto is thrown into a bear pit with a large grizzly bear chained to a heavy pin in the middle of the pit. Squanto wrestles with the bear and receives slashes to his shoulder, a few bloody lines are shown.
  • there are 2 chase scenes. they are not overly intense or violent.
  • English soldiers in one scene invade and attack a monastery and threaten monks. a monk tells a lie to make them leave.
  • in one scene Sir George threatens another man with a knife by shaking and holding it between his eyes.
  • in one scene Epenow is seen fighting against two men armed with swords as part of an act, Squanto does not know this is real and he engages in the battle.
  • Sir George punches Squanto in one scene.
  • later on in the film two soldiers are shot with arrows, one is killed, the other is shot through the arm, the other staggers away and makes it back to the settlement before he collapses.
  • later once Squanto returns back to his village, he finds that his tribe has been completely decimated by smallpox brought by the English. Nakooma is found dead but is not shown.
  • at one point later in the film, the English and natives prepare to face each other in battle, Squanto tries to stop both sides from fighting, however Epenow's son tries to shoot a soldier with an arrow and he is shot when the soldier returns fire, he is not killed however and he survives.

  • the scene where natives are kidnapped and forced into submission can be intense.
  • the chase scenes can be intense, the second one more than the first.
  • the bear pit scene could be quite frightening to some viewers
  • an entire tribe of natives has been decimated by smallpox in one scene.
