THE ENID BLYTON ADVENTURE SERIES is a 20-something episode adaptation of the classic Enid Blyton story series which included such great reads as THE ISLAND OF ADVENTURE and THE MOUNTAIN OF ADVENTURE. The story is updated to the 1990s with mobile phones and the like, although inevitably this means it feels in some ways more dated than the original stories. Most alarming is that this was made in New Zealand with a Kiwi cast, with Maori characters popping up in support occasionally. However, I found it quite close to the plot development of the novels, and there's certainly the right spirit of fun and adventure. Kiki steals the show, inevitably.

Ashcroft shines as pedro in Blyton's Circus!
elmohead26 May 2000
Little known character actor James Ashcroft truly electrifies the screen in this New Zealand television adaption of "circus". Along with a steady supporting cast Ashcroft shows what "acting chops" were far before Haley "6th sense "osment ever appeared on the scene. The subtle love story line is perfect for the brooding Ashcroft who comes of as the typical "kiwi" hardman who shows flashes of a soft veneer. Really worth checking out!!!He's one to watch!
