A Good Comedy Movie
milind14 June 1999
Ramgopal Varma comes up with a different kind of comedy. Everyone is after a briefcase which contains something valuable. Its a fun on the run kind of movie. Sanjay Dutt and Urmila Matondkar give an excellent performance. The best performance comes from Paresh Rawal. This is Paresh's Best performance after Andaz Apna Apna and Sir. The Cinematography and Sound Recording are excellent. The dialogues are very good. The climax is a let down. This is one movie that could have done well without songs.

Not that great film but still a guilty pleasure for many of us!!
sauravjoshi852 December 2021
Daud is a comedy road adventure film written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma and stars Sanjay Dutt, Urmila Matondkar, Paresh Rawal, Late Neeraj Vora, Ashish Vidyarthi and Manoj Bajpayee.

A Paltry thief assigned to steal a unknown packet allegedly containing gold.

Although the film is very straight and predictable but still the film can be called as the guilty pleasure for any lazy Sunday afternoon. The film is filled with some superb acting, memorable comedy, great music, decent choreography with some decent action, the film can easily be called as typical Bollywood masala flick.

Acting is probably the strongest aspect of the film and all the actors were impressive. Sanjay Dutt and Urmila looked great with each other and complimented each other perfectly. Late Neeraj Vora being the most impressive with his impeccable acting and the character played by him 'Chako' is not only impressive but also immortal and will be remembered for ages. Paresh Rawal on the other hand was in my opinion was equally impressive and he shares the limelight with Late Neeraj Vora. Manoj Bajpayee's initial film and he looked good, Ashish Vidyarthi looked impressive in the role of policeman.

Screenplay of the film was average but still will keep you engaged the screenplay of the film could've been more crisped and the length of the film which is close to 03 hours might pinch few viewers. Music by A. R. Rahman is superb and songs like 'Shabba Shabba' and 'O Bhavre' are still popular. The climax of the film is typical Bollywood climax.

Overall the film is not as ban as the reviews suggest and can easily be termed as guilty pleasure for many of us which include me.

Weird but funny
jahangirhussain7424 June 2012
Daud: Fun on the Run is a weird but a funny movie. This movie belongs to its two principal characters--Sanjay Dutt and Urmila Matondkar. I didn't know that Matondkar can excel at comedy too. Her facial expressions and dialogue delivery are so funny. Many of the situations in this film didn't make sense. We never get to know why Nandu (Dutt) is the way he is. Neither do we know who Bhavani (Matondkar) really is. Moreover, the scenes in the jungle, especially those involving Chaku (Neeraj Vora) are too hard to digest but incredibly funny. I never stop laughing when I see those scenes. Dutt and Matondkar are good. Neeraj Vora tickles your funny bones. Paresh Rawal as the dreaded gangster Pinky is too over-the-top. Ashish Vidyarthi is okay . The rest of the cast is average. I recommend this movie to those who want a few laughs and feel good.

Not a good follow up to Rangeela
silvan-desouza24 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After RANGEELA, RGV came back with his alleged muse Urmila and Sanjay Dutt. Those days Sanju was just out of jail and he was trying hard to make a comeback. DAUD however falters due to it's handling and also hangover of Rangeela. Here too we have songs similarly shot The film starts off well but however the handling could be much better yet some scenes are funny like the entire story that Sanju and Urmila tell Chakk(played by Neeraj Vohra) The villains are shown as comic pieces which may not be a problem but things do get boring

Direction by RGV is decent Music has a hangover of Rangeela yet some songs are good

Sanjay Dutt tries hard he does handle scenes well but at times looks out of sorts Urmila is okay in her role Paresh Rawal lends some funny moments, Manoj Bajpai gets less scope Neeraj Vohra is funny at times, rest are okay

"Daya Shankar." - "Uma Parvati."
suchenwi12 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Of the 14 Bollies I have collected so far, "Daud" is my absolute favorite by a large margin. After watching it the fourth time in a few weeks, I'm even more sure of that impression.

Urmila Matondkar is just such a joy to behold. There is a number of good-looking actresses, but she somehow has great control over her facial expressions, especially when doing comedy. Remembering simple quotes of hers, like "50 - 50", make me suddenly feel very good...

Sanjay Dutt is not your typical look-good, do-good "X.Y. Khan" actor. He's the rough-tough guy, but can also express a variety of feelings pretty well. Together with Urmila, he sure is the dominated part here, but in a very charming way.

The side actors playing Chako-ji (the clown who can be very serious) and Pinky (the jovial sadist) also add much flair. Eery scenes can be remembered by just a few words: "Say one last time: jay Hind."- "Jay Hind." - "OK, shoot them." Oh, and from the vehicle aspect, the dump truck on which the big escape starts, and the double-decker bus on which it ends, are also memorable "personae" ...

I love "Daud", after watching it four times, and will re-watch it many more times. Maybe one day I'll even understand what "Daya Shankar" and "Uma Parvati" (the pseudonyms used by the heroes for a while) mean and imply...

This movie belongs to Paresh Rawal
rajatshetty4327 April 2020
What a movie, Paresh Rawal was the hero of this movie.. his character as Pinky is funny as well as superbly dynamic. He knows how to draw attention from the audiences and he has done it over here.. Sanjay Dutt & Urmila were good, but Neeraj Vora tool stole the show..

This movie needs to get its due.

I don't know why this movie is not talked about, but it's such a classic movie. The comedy still seems so fresh. Paresh Rawal, Sanjay, Urmila were so good, along with other cast. The chako scenes are just hilarious, they are filled up with meme material in today's age.
