Michael Stipe, Chvrches, and Coldplay are just a few of over 60 artists who’ve contributed to the 2023 iteration of EarthPercent’s annual Earth Day compilation album. Proceeds will benefit the Brian Eno-founded charity’s grant giving program, which directly benefits organizations fighting the ongoing climate crisis.
Stipe — a frequent eco-advocate — contributes the track “Give Me a Hand,” a moody art-pop number featuring guest vocals from folk singer and disability advocate Gaelynn Lea. Meanwhile, Chvrches reunite with their pal Robert Smith of The Cure for a rendition of their song “How Not to Drown,” recorded live at the Brixton Academy. Coldplay tap H.E.R. for another live track, this one being their ballad “Let Somebody Go” at the River Plate.
Also featured on the compilation are Eno, Dry Cleaning, dodie, Bring Me the Horizon, Julia Holter, Mystery Jets, and many more. Stream the album via Bandcamp below.

As House Republicans tried this week (and then backed down in the face of public outrage) to weaken the nonpartisan office in charge of investigating lawmaker and staff misconduct, People took a look back at some of the most eyebrow-raising ways public and campaign funds have been used by politicians.
When official spending takes a turn for the personal—and, sometimes, downright weird—it’s not always illegal. But, even it doesn’t lead to jail time, it can ruin careers.

When traveling on the campaign trail, sometimes you need to bring the whole family along with you.

Director: Anne Fontaine
Writers: Anne Fontaine, Pascal Bonitzer, Sabrina B. Karine, Alice Vial
French director Anne Fontaine, who has been making features since 1997’s Dry Cleaning, has certainly been jumping around between genres over her past several features, skipping from the romantic comedy of My Worst Nightmare (2013) to her tawdry English language debut Adrift (2013) and a modern twist on Flaubert’s eternal text with 2014’s Gemma Bovary. Her latest is a French-Polish co-production period piece set in 1945, where a nurse working for a branch of the Red Cross caring for French survivors of the German camps is convinced into following a sickly Polish nun to her convent after the woman begs for assistance. The nurse discovers a clutch of nuns all in advanced state of pregnancy.
Cast: Lou de Laage, Agata Buzek, Joanna Kulig, Vincent Macaigne, Agata Kulesza
Production Co./Producers: Mandarin Films’ Eric & Nicolas Altmayer (Yves Saint Laurent)

Naomi Watts and Robin Wright deliver riveting performances in Adore, a sensual and provocative drama about two lifelong friends who find unexpected happiness in relationships that cross the bounds of convention. An unpredictable tale of misguided love and a heartfelt celebration of the enduring nature of female friendship, the film is the English-speaking directorial debut of distinguished filmmaker Anne Fontaine (Coco Before Chanel).
It is adapted for the screen by Academy Award-winning writer Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons), from a novella by Nobel Prize winner for Literature Doris Lessing.
Over the course of her career, French writer/director Anne Fontaine has explored the gray areas of emotional desires in acclaimed films such as Dry Cleaning and Nathalie. Each of those films turned on a staid middle-class couple who are unexpectedly pulled off the straight-and-narrow by an alluring young person. With Adore, Fontaine brings her light, sensuous and intelligent touch to a...

Jason Voorhees has taken Manhattan, been to space, and of course massacred nearly everyone brave enough to show his or her face at Camp Crystal Lake. While those are all fine accomplishments, we think there are still plenty of missed opportunities for Jason. In fact, there is an entire film catalogue of experiences waiting for him, if only someone would give him the chance. He has been patiently laying dormant for quite a while, and we think it’s time Mr. Voorhees takes a stab (pun intended) at a new set of circumstances. For your reading pleasure, we dreamed up a few situations, places, and scenarios we would like to see Jason ‘take.’ So, read on for some ridiculous fun, infused with a hearty amount of satire, irony, and wishful thinking. Location: Poughkeepsie, New York How it Goes Down: Like in Manhattan, perhaps Jason would catch a boat in to...

"I've been [acting] too much," Ryan Gosling told the AP last week. "I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it." Sure, maybe Ryan, who stars in this upcoming weekend's The Place Beyond the Pines, needs some time off to fine-tune his craft. Or maybe he's taking a break to pursue his true passion, which is carrying things. Dry cleaning, coffee, artisanal cheese — if it needs to get from point A to point B, Ryan Gosling will carry it there in his manly hands. No messenger bags allowed. This is the Professional Carrying League.

It contains many spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the episode yet, fold this recap and store it up under your bucket hat. We open on Rick, who knows there’s something he’s been meaning to do, but hasn’t quite gotten around to it yet. Dry cleaning? It’s probably dry cleaning. Ehh, actually, the zombie apocalypse is happening, so maybe it has something to do with that? Nah, the zombies are in Atlanta, and it’s not like anyone’s headed to AtlantOHHHH My God forgot that dude from the first episode! Ah geez. Hopefully he’s still busy not shooting his wife and hasn’t strolled into downtown Atlanta and gotten superkilled. On the plus side, he’s nicely set up to save Rick’s life next episode...

Mark Pincus was chased out of some of the best companies in America. Now he's trying to build a better one. Pincus is the founder and CEO of Zynga, an online game company that attracts more than 200 million gameplayers per month for applications such as FarmVille, FrontierVille, and Mafia Wars. In this Q&A, Pincus talks about why a company's strength comes from the inclusiveness of its culture, why everybody should think like an entrepreneur, and why you should quit whining about resources and start prioritizing ruthlessly.
Kermit Pattison: Zynga has grown to more than 1,000 people in three years and that means you have to delegate more to managers. What do you look for when you hire people?
Mark Pincus: In all managers, I'm looking for a combination of three attributes. One, I want to see that they can be an entrepreneur. Especially as your company gets bigger, you...

I had a conversation recently with a fellow film composer about “creative burnout”. This person isn’t feeling it anymore. He told me that the years of rejection and rewrites have eroded his ambition and he just doesn’t find it exhilarating the way he once did. I listened as he told me about gigs come and gone and what he loved about them versus the gigs of late and what he loathed about those. He talked about how things have changed in film music; how he felt it is no longer financially possible to record a decent orchestra, convince a director to go with a melody over a drone, or make it through an entire film without competing with needle drops for a money-grabbing soundtrack release. To be honest, his long tale of discontent made me very sad and a little uncomfortable. It was a dreary story.

If there's one thing we expect in horror movies, it's blood. Or gore. Or maybe that random green fluid that gets flung about when dealing with zombies, vamps, aliens or ghosts. As I watch low and big-budget horror movies alike, I often ask myself, "How do you get the stains out of those clothes?" A conundrum, that one: These laundry messes could send the most grime-savvy granny straight to the loony bin. Ok,...
