Les lunettes feeriques (1909)
** 1/2 (out of 4)
While at a party, a man pulls out a special pair of glasses that allows people to see all sorts of strange things. This Emile Cohl film isn't too different from the type of films that the filmmaker was making around this period. This one here basically has some live action material but then it flashes over to animation as we get a pair of glasses on the screen with each lens showing something different. Sometimes the two images are connected and sometimes they're completely different. Fans of early animation and Cohl fans are going to be the ones who find this most entertaining. For the most part it's a pretty clever movie that offers up some good animation but I think a better story structure would have helped things. Still, for 1909 this is nice.
