It will make a lot of fun

This two-reel comedy may not be as great a laughmaker as "A Regiment of Two," but it will make a lot of fun. The story is of two next-door neighbors who fall out. The feud extends to all the various members of the respective families except two, a young man and a young woman; these are very much in love. The heads of the families are Sydney Drew and Josie Sadler, John Bunny and Flora Finch. The lovers are Wallie Van and Lillian Walker. Much of the mirth will come when, with Drew and Bunny rolling over in the dust, and the members of the two families co- operating in the battle, Wallie Van upsets two beehives. An effort has been made, and with considerable success, to make the humor continuous rather than to bunch it in spots. James Oliver Curwood writes the script and Wilfrid North produces it. - The Moving Picture World, September 6, 1913

Romeo and Juliet in the Suburbs

In retrospect, a bit of an all-star Vitagraph comedy -- no surprise as you could be starring in one and filling out a crowd in the next -- but it's certainly at least potentially interesting to see John Bunny, Vitagraph's comedy superstar until his death a couple of years later, paired against Sidney Drew before he got settled down into his satires of middle-class idiocy with his second wife.

The story, alas, is fairly straightforward and depends almost entirely on the charms of its leading players. Happily, they certainly knew how to act for the camera and if the course of the film is no surprise, it's a pleasant enough one-reeler. Vitagraph would be the last of the Patents Trust companies standing, still turning out successful films, when it was taken over by Warner Brothers a dozen years later.
