A movie NOT about raves
daimonmagus6 October 2002
This movie was not about raves. It was about hatred, racism, violence, dysfunctional families, and screwed up teens.

I was into the rave scene for many years, and while there are plenty of drugs going around that scene (as portrayed in the film), I never saw any of the hatred and violence portrayed in this film.

I did like the film, but I thought it should have been named something else, because the title had little to do with the movie. IF you want to see a movie about the problems many teens face, this is a great film. If you want to see a movie about raves and the raving lifestyle, this ain't it.

Depressing...

Just cause a movie is on the edge and griddy does not make it a good movie. Just cause its independent does not make it a good movie. This movie was borderline "ok" if ya want to see a racial type movie, but for a rave movie it fails miserably. I was drawn in to see it cause the description I read about the movie said "if you have never experienced a rave, here is your chance." This movie portrayed beyond a worse case scenario for a rave. In my three years of raving I never saw anything that closely resembled this, and I have been to parties all over southern Cali, including L.A. Sure there were a few over doses, but thats not a rave, its stupidity. Overall it seems that the director, as most, tried to portray a culture with a very biased view and who has probably never experienced a rave in real life and did not bother to interview real ravers for some expertise. It wanted to show it as an evil that it is not. Well I am busy now, so guess that is enough said.

A landmark movie told in a unique way,

A modern day American Graffiti told in a very unusual style using documentary footage of the actors, I found this to be ground breaking filmmaking. It took me a liitle bit to accept the style but why not challenge to be different. This is a unique film from a visionary director that has a very promising future.

I just finished watching ...

I just finished watching this movie and I've never seen anything worse than this. I mean, this is a movie about the rave scene, and all we get to see is drive-by shootings, people being kicked and riots... The rave scene is not like it's being portrayed here. I guess the producers of this film are trying to get people NOT going to raves or might have had bad experiences of raves.

Yes, there are drugs on raves and there are no defences against it. Not that that's what raves are all about. Raves are about coming together, having fun, feeling like you're part of something big and to become one with the music. It's all about love and that's the least I saw here. I saw racism, hatred and disrespect.

I think the producers of this move did a great job for me not trying to convince my friends to see this movie. And believe me, I won't.

This was a very moving film that I could relate to.

Rave is an honest portrayal of the havoc wreaked by the innocence of youth, peer pressure, and the overwhelming demands of family life.

Director Krauss takes great care in neither glamourizing the rave culture nor painting the picture that his lead characters are without human foibles. In fact, like characters from a shakespearean play, the players of Rave are simplistically drawn, like pawns, into fate's ongoing game of tragedy.

I enjoyed this film. The characters really work well. It is one of the best independent films I have seen lately.
