Sadly mediocre detective flick
ramaja-127 April 2018
Crime is my favourite genre I there are not many things that I enjoy more then a good detective story. Complex plot and unexpected ending with constant tension end suspense is my sort of movies. Unfortunately Yugoslavian, and now Serbian, cinematography obviously has no flair for crime/thriller genre. This is a lousy, boring, uninspiring Yu film with some good actors in underdeveloped roles. It doesn't even deserve 6/10 but since it's from my country I gave it average rating.

Detective story,Yugoslavian style

Warning: Spoilers
"Neka Druga Zena" is a detective thriller, inspired by the western productions at the time. I don't like films which are more or less based on something which is already been seen, yet in this case, the result was quite decent and refreshing.

Like elsewhere, drugs have stepped in Yugoslavian society during the 60s, 70s, and by the early 80s it was a serious problem. The story of "Neka Druga Zena" or "Some Other Woman" is based on a murder. A well known Belgrade professor and intellectual is found dead in his apartment. It's not clear how, when and who committed the crime. That's where the mystery starts to unravel, with the work of a dedicated police detective team. Professor's private life slowly starts to unravel, with all the dark secrets which used to surround him. The script is written solid, plot fluent, and acting is on the level. Many well known names from Serbian cinematography were involved, and they sure delivered a solid performance... recently deceased Petar Kralj, Svetlana Bojkovic, Dragan Nikolic, Ljubisa Samardzic and others.

Unfortunately, like so many times in Yugo cinematography, technicals unlike the actors, did not deliver. Lab work is poor, colors mush, sound is dull... If the technical aspect was on the level, "Neka Druga Zena" would definitely be an all time classic. But alas... it's far from it.

Still, what made me notice this piece of motion picture was the appearance of a particular vehicle, an old BMW 3.0 CS. Since I'm a great fan of old timers, Beemers in particular, this was quite enough to make me satisfied, at least just a little bit. Overall, it's a good movie and an interesting content for fans of detective movies. Enjoy.
