The glorious as well as sad history of Granada , a last bastion of Islam in Spain . Based on historical deeds about intrigue and power-fight in kingdom of Granada , during its conquest by the Catholic Kings who ensured a united front of Castile and Aragon against this enclave . This costumer movie is partially based on real events . After eight hundred years in which took place a great splendor , Arabs are besieged by the Christian armies . It is really important to highlight the huge significance that the Kingdom of Granada had back then , being conquered by the Catholic Kings , Isabel I of Castilla (Marita Marschall) and Fernando II of Aragon (Pedro Diaz Del Corral) . This well-known monarchs governed in domains where the sun never set . We should have the same intelligence as these monarchs that take advantage of the power of this story and of its marvellous Medieval background . The Granada War was a series of military campaigns between 1482 and 1492 , during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon , against the Nasrid dynasty's Emirate of Granada . As Isabella had married Ferdinad in 1469 , this meant that the two powerful kingdoms of Castile and Aragon would now stand united, free from inter-Christian war which had helped Granada survive . The aftermath of the war saw the end of coexistence -"live and let live"- between religions In the Iberian peninsula : the Jews were forced to convert to Christianity or be exiled in 1492 , and later on , all of Granada's Muslims were obliged to either convert to Christianity, become slaves, or be exiled ; by 1526 this prohibition spread to the rest of Spain . Spain would go on to model its national aspirations as the guardian of Christianity and Catholicism . As the Muslim King broke off his vassalage and rebelled against the Catholic Monarchs , despite holding only the city of Granada and the Alpujarras Mountains . As in Granada happens successive intrigues starred by Muley Hassan (Horst Buchhold) who fell in love for the beauty Christian Isabel De Solis (Gioia Scola) . The fortunes of the Granadan internal conflict shifted yet again . Then Muley takes on his wife (Delia Boccardo) and son Boabdil (Manuel Bandera) , last prince of Granada . Boabdil was expelled from the Albayzín , his base of power , by Hasan's brother al-Zagal (Oleg Fedorov) . Al-Zagal also took command of the nation itself , dethroning his aging brother , who died shortly thereafter . It ended with the defeat of Granada and its annexation by Castile, ending all Islamic rule on the Iberian peninsula -Al Andalus- . An eight-month siege of Granada began in April 1491. The situation for the defenders grew progressively dire, as their forces for interfering with the siege dwindled and advisers schemed against each other . Bribery of important officials was rampant, and at least one of the chief advisers to Boabdil seems to have been working for Castile the entire time . On January 2 , 1492 Muhammad XII of Granada -King Boabdil- surrendered the Emirate of Granada , the city of Granada, and the Alhambra palace to the Castilian forces . The fall of the Alhambra of Granada is still celebrated every year by the City Council of Granada , and the Granada War is considered in traditional Spanish historiography as the final war of the "Reconquista."

This TV series recreates faithfully the historical facts , such as rivalry between Abencerrajes y Zegríes , Granada conquest and many other happenings ; as 523 years separate us from the events are to narrate , but the shadows still hide from the public this great historic moment , and the significance of such deeds . This is the environment in which occurs adventures , intrigues , emotions , feats , betrayal and spectacular battles . ¨Requiem for Granada¨ TV series is filled with those lights and shadows , gathers such very important known events recreated in the artistic frame called ¨Spain unification¨ , characterized and inspired by the ideas of a new world . The series contributes to historical , artistic and cultural memory of an era , with a look back to the past, offering us an interesting adaptation on important facts . This is an enough budget flick with a very good cast . Horst Buchhold gives a convincing character as astute and mean Muley Hasan . Manuel Bandera plays with enormous distinction to Boabdil and the beautiful Gioia Scola as Isabel De Solis whose gorgeous beauty is difficult to resist . She is marvelously photographed throughout but the role , as written , and she gives her big opportunity to really shine . Suppport cast is frankly good , plenty of familiar faces such as Javier Escriba as Abul Kazim , Esperanza Campuzano , Luis Barbero , Germán Cobos , Daniel Martín , Francisco Algora , Iñaqui Aierra , Juan Jesus Valverde , Javier Loyola , Luis Marin , Jose Lifante , Francisco Casares and Juanjo Puigcorbe . The series packs a rousing production design by Wolfgang Burmann , shot on location in Sigüenza , Guadalajara , mosque of Cordoba , Alhambra of Granada and other luxurious places of Andalucia . Colorful and glimmer cinematography by Jose Galisteo . Evocative and emotive musical score by Anton Garcia Abril , including oriental sounds . The series was well written and directed by Vicente Escriba .
