Fun Short from Smith

Here's another Pete Smith short that he did for MGM, which he serves as narrator to the events. This time out we take a look at three men who all do special tricks. Vyrl Jackson does trick shots with horseshoes. Paul Sydell trains dogs to do balancing tricks and Harry Jackson is an expert doing tricks with an axe and whip. I've always been a big fan of these Smith shorts as he quite often shined the spotlight on some strange characters and I guess these guys could be lumped into that category. Of the three experts I'd say the most entertaining was Vyrl Jackson because some of the tricks were really entertaining. One trick shot had him throwing a couple horseshoes while blind folded and for an added effect he often put his female assistant in the line of danger. Quite often her face is down by the stake just inches away from the shoe. The dog tricks with Sydell will probably make some PETA members upset but none of the tricks appear to have be too dangerous. The balancing performances of the dogs were certainly impressive but you do have to wonder how injured some of them were trying to perfect the tricks.
