Basic porn w/OK cast
lor_7 September 2010
SEX MOOD RING is a minor porn film about a magic ring bringing sexual fantasies to life. Zero-based budget drags it way, way down, as there is nothing fantastic here.

IMDb originally has it listed with 1973 in the title but a release year of 1979; latter is closer to the truth, as 1973 predates the careers of most cast members other than the ubiquitous Ric Lutze. NOTE: After my review IMDb changed the date to 1975 and later on went with 1979.

He bookends the film as the boyfriend of the uncredited (and unidentified) heroine, who offers her a mood ring and then makes her work for it. Ring lets her turn her imaginary fantasies into reality, and the rest the film has her wandering around unphotogenic L.A. locations rubbing it and to paraphrase a famous sportscaster: "cue the loops".

I found the film's structure (or lack of it) annoying and needlessly complicated, when the fans would surely have preferred a more straightforward presentation of wall-to-wall sex. In the first fantasy the heroine seems to be imagining herself as Ric's wife, or is she? In subsequent scenes she turns into other women (the porn rule of "any footage will do, as long as it's explicit) and in one threesome scene it seemed that she was the OTHER woman wearing the ring, and "herself" (the actress) was playing somebody else.

Even the bookending was poorly done -film ends with just a continuation of the opening scene, though it's not intended to be.

The girls here are quite sexy -not the most beautiful women in Central Casting, but enthusiastic performers. The offered a welcome change from the same old casts in these SWV reissues, with Ric and his Beatle mop haircut the reliable element.
