Would of been a lot better off canceled after Adam and Jimmy left
ithrowbedpans25 July 2006
In 2000 I saw my first episode of the man show with Adam Carrolla and Jimmy Kimmel in season 2 and i loved it and have been watching it ever since. In 2003 Adam and Jimmy left the program (my best guess is they were sick of it and wanted to do other things) and i got a little depressed. Several months later the man show came back on the air with new hosts, new set, and a new opening theme. The first couple of minutes i was like okay, little did i know that Joe Rogan and Doug Stanhope didn't know what the hell they were thinking, they added new additions to the show and most of them were nothing short of ridiculous "The magical Negro" which is a person who helps out Doug and Joe with their problems and sings and dances about the penis, and "Guess who's Ass Crack" which you have to identify a persons ass between a celebrity or a plumber. On top of all of this Joe and Doug decided not to do the man show toast at the end, in fact they thought it was a joke to them when they used it in one of their discussions talking to the audience. In 2004 the rating for "The Man Show went from 2 million viewers to 600,000 viewers in less than a year, thats 70% of the home audience gone! Adam and Jimmy knew what they were doing from day 1 and the series would of turned out great if they would of just left it alone after season 4. So if season 5 and 6 of the man show ever come out on DVD, don't buy it! save your money and save yourself from that horrible torture and just get seasons 1,2,3 and 4 you wont regret it.

The new show stinks!
firefly-2727 October 2003
Please bring back Jimmy and Adam, or at the very least get rid of Joe. I have been a fan since the first episode and have generally enjoyed most of it until this season. The straw that broke my affiliation was when they dissed the "ziggy-zoggy" and with it the memory of The Fox. I think these two are trying way too hard to be disgusting and the quality of the show is suffering.

huh?

I finally gave in and gave this show a chance. Bad decision. I couldn't even make it through their extremely long explanation of what the show was going to be about. Why did I think that Jimble Kimble would have been part of something that didn't suck?

Gasp! The Shock! The Horror!

Of what? You might be asking yourself. Well...not a darn thing, to tell you the truth. Although this is The MAN show, I tuned in the other day, simply to see Adam Carolla (IMHO, one of the funniest men on telivision today) outside the Loveline format that made him famous. This show is hilarious - I love this show. And yes, as the name "Theresa" would suggest, I am not a man. This show is about not really taking yourselves very seriously. And since they call it The Man Show, it is mostly about men not taking themselves to seriously. Like (and anyone that saw the most recent episode will know what I'm talking about) the 3 quater a$$ shorts? Please! The only part of the show that is excessivly male is the "Juggies" dance squad, but even that can be dismissed as laughable.

If you say it's degrading to women you're missing the point...
MikieMD26 October 2003
The post earlier said that the Man Show was too degrading to women and was offensive...I thought that was the point! The show is sexist in such an outrageous and ridiculous manner that it's definitely not to be taken seriously. And with that philosophy, it's very very funny...

Oprah, eat you heart out!

I loved this show! Sure, it was sophomoric, but it was fun- and isn't that what TV is supposed to be? It had three of the things that guys hold near and dear to their hearts- pretty women, beer and farts. How can you not love a show where Cindy Crawford (in a spot that had to be filmed a long time ago) shows you how to fix a toilet AND says "ballcock"? A show where the fastest beer drinker in the world plays the organ? Where the audience and the hosts drink brews all during the show? And where, as they have promised, we'll see girls on trampolines end every show? Will this show offend people? Sure. But that's why you have a remote control- you don't have to watch it. Every show doesn't have to be "Masterpiece Theatre." So many of the "women's shows" take great pleasure in showing that men are pigs. Well here, not only don't they deny it, they're damn proud of it. I just can't wait til Ben Stein shows up as a guest.

The funniest show on television
nutz4n6430 December 1999
Am I being immature for saying that this is my favorite show and that I laugh my a$$ off every time I watch? Probably. What can I say? I'm a 17 year old guy. I can identify with some of the things that are discussed here. I started on this show because of Jimmy Kimmel, who I know from Win Ben Stein's Money. Not only is he just as funny (if not funnier) here, he and Adam are the greatest and I think that women could like it as much as men (I do see a LOT of women in the audience). I enjoy shows that kind of give political correctness a slap in the face, and this one is perfect for that.

What a kick-ass show!
guyfromjerzee4 August 2004
Mind you, I've only seen Season One so far. I don't have Comedy Central, so I never got the chance to watch the show on TV. I just started buying the DVDs. Boy, I was missing out on a lot! It's absolutely the show that all us guys need! Now that we're living in a time where everything has to be PC, it's great to see a show like this that urinates on the mere concept of political correctness. Any woman who complains about this show should consider this: Women have the Oxygen Network, the WE Network, the Lifetime Channel, the Lifetime Movie Channel. All us guys ask for is 30 freakin' minutes! You have 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to watch your heartbreaking stories about babies getting switched at birth. Hell, if women had a show where they mock the idiosyncrasies of men and celebrate womanhood, I wouldn't complain. Oh, yeah, that's right. They have that already. It's called "The View"! And if that show had guys in thongs jumping around in trampolines, I'm not going to stand outside the studio and picket the show. Besides, "The Man Show" mocks males, just as much as it does females.

All the guys talk about is beer, sports, junk food, sex, porno, masturbation, hot girls--and did I mention sex and porno? Some women (I emphasize the word "some," because they are actually a good deal of females who enjoy this show) have to realize that the show pokes fun at the potentially shallow minds of men as well. I always felt that's one of the best things about guys: we're not afraid to poke fun at ourselves. The show's probably more demeaning to men than it is to women. I agree with one previous comment that at times Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Corolla make it too obvious that they're reading from teleprompters. But that's one of my very minor quibbles about the show. My favorite segment is "Helpful Hints from Adult Film Stars." Two of the segments thankfully contain Jenna Jameson, who is one of the more beautiful adult film stars. Speaking of beautiful women, you gotta love those juggies! My favorite one is Heather--who also appears in the opening montage.

The show's theme song is catchy, and I can't help but sing along every time I hear it--though I still can't make out all the lyrics. The Fox is the man, and I was so sad to find out just now as I checked his bio that he died in 2000. As I said, I never got the chance to watch the show when it was on air, so I didn't catch the news of his death. His legacy will definitely live on! And every show ends with girls on trampolines--the icing on the cake. If the show is too crude for your taste, that's your own prerogative. But if you're offended, you obviously can't take a joke. Ever heard of "political correctness is the enemy of comedy"? How else can you explain the success of "All in the Family'? As long as there's no mean intentions behind the humor, it's all in good fun. End of story. In the words of the late Fox, "ziggy zoggy, ziggy zoggy, hoy hoy hoy"! (8 out of 10)

Very funny show
jlawrance12324 July 2001
I find almost all parts of The Man Show pretty funny, especially the experiments in the real world (Putting a 20 dollar bill in an unflushed toilet, ect.) and the Man Show Boy, who is about 10 and is put outside a liquor store to see if anyone would buy him beer. All of the comedy is very funny, but the "Juggies", In my opinion, seem to degrade women a great deal. All in all, a VERY funny show, especially if you're a man.

Boys will be boys
mcgee-820 January 2000
Often tasteless and sexist, but just as often laugh-out-loud funny. Led by expert comics Carolla and Kimmel, "The Man Show" is a brutally honest exploration into the psyche of men. It covers for its political incorrectness by never taking itself too seriously.

"Boys will be boys" seems to be this show's mantra, but I have yet to catch the "Man Show" boys trying to politicize their immature fetishes. Granted, there may some boneheads out there who use some of the show's takes on life to reinforce their chauvinist biases, but free comic expression should not be held hostage to how idiots might misinterpret it.

As many a married woman would tell you, "guy stuff" is, first and foremost, a fertile ground for comedy. And in this post-Lenny Bruce universe, "funny" tramples "PC" just about every time.

Wow, what a boring show.
RickZeigler7896 March 2002
Adam & Jimmy are both very funny individuals. But this show sucks. It has it's funny moments, but it's mostly boring and unfunny and unentertaining. And lame. And contrived. I have no problem with all the big tits and beer-things I enjoy as much as the next guy. But this show is just crap. Why do they still air it and not something that is funny and entertaining like Strangers With Candy?

from a woman...
EmmaSoTaylor19 May 2004
There was recently a commercial for this show saying something to the effect of "men enjoy it. women don't admit it, but they enjoy it too."

I find this ten times more insulting than the show ever was, and that's pretty goddamn insulting. Fine, "boys will be boys." Okay, "it's all in fun." Sure, "sarcasm." I'm as anti-PC as anyone, and I certainly don't claim to have a right to make anyone "behave."

But don't expect me to watch it, and don't expect me to pay any attention to it, and for god's sake, don't shove it in my face how completely unnecessary and useless it considers over half the world's population to be. Woman's television (which I think is horrible, by the way) doesn't insist that men like it, and that is the defining difference between this show and hell, a network like Lifetime.

An ad like that just sounds like insecurity to me, and that's the root of the thing--it's just a bunch of little boys trying to prove to themselves that women like being treated like sh*t.

Prove this misogynistic, offensive, terribly unfunny show wrong, ladies. Don't put up with it.

This is "Benny Hill 2000"
medrjel28 April 2002
I must say, I remember that in the 70's and 80's there was a show that featured scantily clad women and lots of silly jokes called Benny Hill, and everyone laughed, but it got boring in the end.

Well, the premise is back for the new millenium, and it's the Man Show. Just like Benny Hill, it features sophmoric humor, but like shows today, grounds the show in reality. They are simply trying to capture that same audience. And just like Benny Hill, It's heading down the same path.

They need to be careful. It's easy to get caught up in "booty call" and forget about entertainment. May they remember to keep the balance.

Funny, yes, but....
Rio-722 December 1999
'The Man Show' is very degrading to women.

I watched one episode one day and laughed. But still, as a woman myself, I have to look past the humor at the way those men on the show treat women as sex objects. This is not a sexist comment but I don't appreciate being made to feel inadquate to men because I don't have a model's butt or strip for a living. Men can be men, disgusting, funny, without having to include degrading women. I hope the female producers and director of the show change the format a little. Until then...

Promising concept but an amateur, infantile and dated execution
liquidcelluloid-113 March 2004
Network: Comedy Central; Genre: Variety; Average Content Rating: TV-14 (strong sexual content); Available: on DVD; Classification: Contemporary (star range: 1 - 4);

Season Reviewed: Complete Series

'The Man Show' has to be the most infantile, pathetic and wildly mis-directed attempts at satire in recent TV history. In the face of Oprah's victimization, a steady stream of cultural feminization, sitcoms galore promoting men as buffoonish, sex-obsessed oafs and political correctness at a fever pitch the time couldn't be more right for a show to stand up for the male demographic. But creators Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Corolla apparently think the best way to answer it all is with a loud, obnoxious shout of 'Yes, ma'am, may I have another'.

It's pretty clear that the show came about as a result of Kimmel and Corolla deducing that women are going to hate, nag and call men pigs no matter what so they might as well do whatever they please. That I admire and that's where the admiration and ideas end. The presentation of this material is amateurish and lazy. It's built simply on a 3 ring circus platform that panders to every male cliché in the book. It's a faux-celebration of men who have become so neutered by their women they are perfectly willing to put their arms around their own clichés in a desperate attempt to try to reconnect. It's an amazing sight to watch the men in the audience chugging commercial beer and drooling on cue like Pavlovian dogs at the sight of the 'juggies' all the while thinking they are rebelling against something.

With such a reliance on male clichés it's hard to differentiate this show from just about everything else on TV. With male-bashing being the norm any supposed parody of it ultimately gets mixed in, unrecognizable with the rest of the crowd. I can't help but wonder if Kimmel and Corolla have even watched a sitcom in the last few years. But the inept concept is ingenious compared to the sloppy execution. 'Man' drags out fat jokes, fart jokes and beer jokes - all the bits feel 30 years old. This poor thing desperately wants to be edgy and outrageous, but the rest of life and television has already passed it by.

Hosts Corolla and Kimmel come off more like a pair temporary fill-ins than hosts. They stand in front of the camera shifting around, awkwardly reading lines off the teleprompter and generally looking as if any minute Craig Kilborn is going to return from a late tennis game and put them out of their misery. Watch to see their eyes darting around the room nervously, trying not to slip up in front of whoever high power Comedy Central goon or beer advertiser is standing just offstage actually pulling the strings. Their heart just doesn't look into it.

The two have gone onto better things since their departure and Comedy Central put two knew stooges in their place - an even less funny Joe Rogen and Doug Stanhope. The show is already a disaster no matter who hosts. But in the end it's not about the supposed chauvinism and sexism that is most offensive as much as 'The Man Show' violates the cardinal sin of variety television - it's not funny. It lays back on the novelty of it's gags without making any effort to take anything to a new level. I actually think Adam Corolla is the most talented of the production. Of course, you'd never know that from watching this mess.

The best "truth telling" show on TV
thpdg14 September 1999
The Man Show has got to be the most honest, to the point show for men and about men ever produced. Women shoul watch it if they want to understand us. It clears up lots of preconceptions about guys. And of course, there are the girls on trampolines. Were just a bunch of guys having fun, and we aren't hurting anything.

The man show is the show for men
Jack-24722 July 1999
This show is great. It is funny, it as great hosts, and the segments when the hosts try to do different things is the best. Adam Carolla Jimmy Kimmel do a great job. The dancers are hot and 'The Fox' is also great in his own right. I hope this show has a long lasting run on television.

Sorry, guys...
jeremyb26 June 2001
I very much enjoyed the work that Adam Corrola did on 'Loveline', even though that show was a teen-age sex self-indulgence-fest. I loved Jimmy Kimmel on 'Win Ben Stein's Money'. They are both very smart, very funny men. I am not yet ready to say comedic geniuses, but it is damn close.

This show is horrible. It is the worst portrayal of everything that is wrong with men. And hey, I am a guy. It has a few funny parts, but mostly it is a fart-filled, beer drinking, T&A extravaganza. Now, if that is your boat, hop on and set sail. But if you are a thinking member of the male of our species, don't waste your time. It's terrible.

It was good.
Cadwaladr_of_Gwynedd18 February 2004
I watched a little of it with the new hosts, and it's just not the same. The old Man Show with Adam and Jimmy was great. I'm gay, and I still liked it; that should tell you something, since it is obviously aimed at heterosexual men. The humour was perverse, often puerile, yes, but it sometimes had a rather sophisticated satirical edge to it, which I always loved. It was the Man Show, featuring the stereotypical male sexist pig, or Porcus Americanus, as I like to call him, but it poked fun at the stereotype, and at various aspects of the American male culture.

Well, at least Adam and Drew are still together. That's something.

Great Premise, not the greatest execution
Quinoa19848 February 2001
When I first heard of the Man Show, I thought, this is great. It's O and A on TV. And I must admit that the first few episodes and moments in various episodes afterwards are excellent. But overall, there are some things wrong with this show. For one thing, you sometimes don't always get the feeling Adam and Jimmy aren't just talking to each other regularly, as if nearly everything they say is from a teleprompter, and sometimes the bits do get a tad old, as does the always there audience. Still, there are some good things about the show, including the ziggy, ziggy, ziggy, ziggy, hahaha guy who drinks beers faster than anyone, the looks in the closets of Adam and Jimmy's chick's, and the always eternally exceptional Girls on trampolleens (however, even that can get old after the 86th time). More of a parody of men than women
KUAlum2627 July 2005
One reviewer described this as a show that made fun of women, particularly the wives or girlfriends of the hosts,Jimmy Kimmel and Adam CArrola. While the women in the show aren't spared the ridicule,I felt like this show was as much a debasement(all in fun,of course)of men and what appeals to males in general.

The first four or five seasons of the show were fun, albeit not the kind of fun you'd proudly announce you enjoyed to mixed company. Jimmy and Adam have a relaxed comedic style and the show kept the material breezy enough that the sexism was obvious and fairly easy to dismiss. The last season or two with Joe Rogan and Doug Stanhope I barely watched,as it seemed barely watchable. My question about that was:why was the show still on Comedy Central? Neither Rogan or Stanhope are funny and the dumb,loose-necked sketch comedy was replaced with mostly "Fear FActor" style gross-outs and a mean-spirited approach to their chauvinism. My opinion of course.

As said before, hardly the hallmark of great television, but if you enjoy dumb comedy mixed with healthy doses of ribaldry, this show works.

A nauseating masterpiece
neophoenix4 July 2001
This show has to be the worst television show I have ever seen. South Park has pushed the limits of crude humor, imho, but this show goes miles farther. Women on trampolines, scantily clad twenty-somethings who proudly bear the collective label "Juggies", and plentiful midgets are wrapped with the celebration of those humans who bear a Y chromosome and who have a collective intelligence that falls somewhere between an ashtray and a pickle jar. Hey, I'm a guy and I find this show personally offensive. The show's only merit are the man-on-the-street pranks, which I enjoy on almost any show. I cannot believe the FCC allows this atrocity to be broadcast. This show's only power behind it is the on-going hype-generated 'war' between men and women. Why must we participate in such an arbitrary argument?
