Playboy was really fond of reusing material whenever they could get away with it and 'Playmates of the Year: The 90's' is a shining example. I can't deny some hot scenes, choice picks within, but you'll excuse me for having grown tired of this practice. As a seasoned viewer of Playboy titles much of this 100 minute compilation was old-hat.
After a flowery intro sets the stage (3 mins) it's on to the first lady albeit out of order. "Anna Nicole Smith" - PMotY 1993 - gets shown thru her Texan roots before it moves onto her pictorial. A narrator and words from Anna herself do double duty as per the course for the entire title. Then it's her sequence in bed pining for a lost love and getting naked which ends with her soaking wet (8.5 mins). "Renee Tenison" - PMotY 1990 - is next. Desert sequence where Renee looks absolutely fantastic followed by pictorial, voiceover. Then it's a milk bath complete with closeups (4.5 mins).
"Victoria Silvstedt" - PMotY 1997 - has her getting done up to shoot a mock movie, but really just a setup for the obvious strip. Many nice closeups here of the all natural Swedish beauty. Pictorial follows, a few words from Victoria then it's your boy/girl dream fantasy. Seeing it again I wondered how the dad closed the pharmacy and made it home before the guy arrived to pick up his "daughter" Vic. Anyhow the good shots come with them getting sexy in a barn (11 mins). "Corinna Harney" - PMotY 1992 - is next first in a Vegas lights inspired segment that shows her off quite nicely. Then pictorial, chat and an underwhelming boy/girl dream scene on the highway when her car breaks down (7 mins).
"Lisa Matthews" - PMotY 1991 - rolls around on a bed after the initial clip of her winning the title is shown. Then pics, voiceover before your classical strip in a mansion that is a little artsy in it's camera shots given the time period but has some semi-decent views of Lisa in the mix (8 mins). "Jenny McCarthy" - PMotY 1994 - follows and I wish they had chosen better material. Undoubtedly one of Playboy's biggest names has her boy/girl scene centered around pool, but mostly delivers solo shots. Then pics, voiceover before her Angel dream where she looks fantastic in select shots. One of the few clips of her I haven't seen used to death already (9.5 mins).
"Julie Cialini" - PMotY 1995 - wins the title in vintage footage at the mansion, strips on a stage from a two piece heart bikini and a few pieces of other clothes. Pics, chat and a gas station boy/girl that has some nice shots of her tight body (10.5 mins). "Karen McDougal" - PMotY 1998 - has a quick start right to a pampered segment that doesn't feature enough of her nude honestly. Then pics, lite chat and a ghostly boy/girl fantasy that has some really hot shots of Karen either in a bathtub or getting felt up by the dude. Risqué shot of her kitty in closeup for Playboy stood out when I first saw this scene and the same still goes now - nice (10 mins).
"Stacy Sanches" - PMoTY 1996 - is one hot lady and always a real delight to see. A countryside strip from a dress, cowgirl wear minus panties is great. Pics, chat then a sultry jazz number delivers the shots of her naked in a bed you want as the attitude changes to a standard rock piece. Just disregard the insert shots of relationship drama (9.5 mins). "Heather Kozar" - PMotY 1999 - has a scene of her on stage made to resemble Marilyn Monroe complete with blowing up white dress and gets even better when the clothes are off. Beyond having a killer body, Heather always stood out as going the extra step to appear as a natural blonde (dying her pubic hair). Pictorial, chat follows per usual then her steamy boy/girl hotel dream sequence closes things out here in likable fashion (13.5 mins). For fans of any of the ladies, I'll mention the video wraps on a quick where are they now / what are they doing circa 1999 (when this came out).
A casual viewer, newcomer to Playboy has the most to gain with 'Playmates of the Year: The 90's'. Much easier for them to overlook a presentation trying to pass itself off as something new when all the good clips come from past titles. An obvious attempt to milk whatever money is left, the visuals from ladies bestowed the once coveted crown are good, but this title is hard to love for obvious reason.
