Akshay Kumar loves working, and the number of movies he does every year, and has done so far proves the same. Last year, the actor starred in three films – Selfiee, Omg 2, and Mission Raniganj. In 2024, he will appear in four movies. One of his movies, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, was released in theatres on April 11.
Like every actor, Akshay Kumar has seen ups and downs in his movie career. The actor has not always had a good time at the box office. There was a time when he gave back-to-back flops. But the Sooryavanshi actor never lost hope. In an old interview, he opened up about the phase when he gave many flops and what he learned.

Akshay Kumar’s Bromance With Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Will Be His 1st Blockbuster At The Box Office? (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Akshay Kumar is one of the actors who might have the credit to a maximum of two hero films. He is probably one of the most secure actors in the country who has delivered multiple multistar, three-hero, and two-hero films. He is back with another two-hero film with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, where Tiger Shroff plays the parallel lead.
In the last 24 years, this is Akki’s 21st two-hero film, and this count does not include films like Hera Pheri and Heyy Baby or Housefull, where he shares the screen with more than one star.
Since 2000, there have been 20 films where Akshay has shared the screen or the film with another actor as the parallel lead. Now, the two actors might have played brothers, father-son, friends, or rivals. But...

Akshay Kumar Is Ready To Explode The Box Office In 2024 With As Many As 9 Films In A Single Year? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Akshay Kumar is ready to redeem his lost glory at the box office in the year 2024, and while he has been struggling for the last two years, the actor has once upon a time ruled the box office and brought back the phenomenon of middle-budget films working well and bringing a successful year at the box office. This was at a time when none of the Khans and Kapoors were able to deliver and were struggling with numbers.
Akshay’s number game has been strong, with as many as 4 – 5 releases in a single year. However, the post-pandemic world changed a lot of things for actors. In 2022, the superstar had five releases – four theatrical and an Ott release- and none of them churned out numbers at the box office.

Akshay Kumar’s Comedy Franchise Box Office To Enter The 1000 Crore Total With Welcome 3 & Other Sequels? ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Akshay Kumar has been out of the number game for a long time. After Sooryavanshi, the actor, who was once considered the golden goose at the box office, had a disastrous year with a string of flops. He had been keeping low, and his films have failed to meet expectations.
But it seems like the actor is ready to change gears from his ever-favorite Deshbhakti mode to the tried and tested comedy role. Akshay reinvented himself at the box office with a string of comedy films in the 2000s, and the actor seems to go down the same route yet again.
As the third installment of Welcome, popularly called Welcome 3 and tentatively titled Welcome To Jungle, has started its journey, we tried researching the numbers Akshay Kumar has churned out with his comedy franchises.

Actress Charrul Malik, who is a part of comic shows such as ‘Happu Ki Ultan Paltan’ and ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai’, shares her interest in the genre and why it is the most challenging one.
“Not anyone can make everyone laugh. A comedian can do a serious role but for an actor, who is doing comedy for the first time, it gets a little difficult because it shows your true personality. Whenever I see actors on my set they are always laughing or making everyone laugh. It is tough,” she says.
She also shares her wish of being part of ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. “Right now I am very happy about doing comedy. Any other chance if I get, I would want to go to ‘The Kapil Sharma show’,” she adds.
Her favourite films include ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘3 idiots’. “I can see these movies on replay as many times as possible.

What makes Akshay's box office journey different from other Bollywood superstars is his consistency to hit silver screen with several movies a year and draw in the audience. It all started with Baby in January 2015. Ever since then, Akshay Kumar has already scored three more releases in the form of Gabbar Is Back, Brothers and Singh Is Bliing. Now in a span of exactly 12 months, the man would have his fifth film hitting the screens – Airlift. While his contemporaries are churning out one or at maximum two films in one year, Akshay Kumar is pretty much setting a record of sorts with as many as five releases to his name.
Tirelessly moving ahead and stepping into films as diverse as Housefull 3, Robot 2 and Rustom, Akshay gets into a conversational mode.
Unlike Holiday, Baby or even Gabbar Is Back which required you to perform a lot of action, Airlift isn’t about the kicks and punches from you. How was it to be a part of some true drama?
It was actually nice to take a break...

Stories of differences between director Neeraj Vora and leading man Abhishek Bachchan from the location of Hera Pheri 3 in Dubai filtered out last week. All rubbish, say sources close to Abhishek. According to reports, Abhishek Bachchan and Neeraj altercated over the film's script, or rather a lack of it. Says a source, "When he reached Dubai for shooting, Abhishek was appalled by the lack of script resources. He kept asking Neeraj for scenes and dialogues and would be given vague answers. After a point Abhishek who prides himself for being an organized actor just gave up, and shut down. He walked off the sets." When asked about this alleged showdown producer Firoz Nadiadwala had a hearty laugh. "Who is planting these outrageous stories? We are almost done with the shooting and we're releasing on August 12. Abhishek is doing this franchise Hera Pheri after Dhoom. And in any case, he is a very disciplined actor.

Sadly, Akshay Kumar who is in many ways the mainstay of the Hera Pheri franchise is no longer part of it. The core cast for the new Hera Pheri film encores Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty. But instead of Akshay, the film features John Abraham. For those who may miss Akshay in this installment of Hera Pheri here is a good news. Two characters have been incorporated as homage to Akshay's character. Says producer Firoz Nadiadwala, "Akshay played the roguish and very popular character Raju in Hera Pheri. We have incorporated references in the dialogue to his character as gone missing. Writer-director Neeraj Vora has incorporated two characters named Raju who could have been played by Akshay. One is a character called Raju Khabri, a roguish police informer played by Abhishek Bachchan, and the other is Raju Duplicate played by John Abraham who makes a living by selling pirated copies of Bhojpuri films.

Two schedules of Hera Pheri 3 have already been completed with the film's leading men Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Suneil Shetty. And there is no sign of any leading lady on the sets! According to rumours the film's producer Firoz Nadiadwala and director Neeraj Vora are yet to zero in on leading ladies for the three heroes. Apparently, the leading ladies would be brought on board later. Confirming this Firoz Nadiadwala says, "It's true we've shot two schedules of the new Hera Pheri film with only the heroes Abhishek, John and Suniel. The girls were not required until now. As we all know Hera Pheri is a boys' franchise. Of course the leading ladies would have definite clear-cut roles. But the plot would largely revolve around the heroes." The heroines as an after-thought kind of narrows down the glam-options. No big-name leading lady would want to be in an expendable position.
