Nothing more shocking than reality

"Erbkrank" is a German 25-minute short film from 1936 and uncommonly for the Nazi regime, this is a black-and-white silent movie. The director is Herbert Gerdes and he made some films in the 1920s too, but today he is most known for his Nazi propaganda films about euthanasia in the 1930s. The one here is the best (well, worst) example of his "art". We see disabled and mentally ill people from start to finish and read text messages and intertitles how they are a burden on society, emotionally and financially. It is really shocking stuff and this film describes the Nazi's take on empathy better than a 1000-page book ever could. Just horrible. i still believe, despite the content, that it is good that this film was made (as you also see from my rating) because it gives a very accurate description of a very dark historic era and teaches us hopefully to never let developments like these happen again. I feel sorry for the people int he video as nobody knows (and maybe it is better that way) what happened to them and what the Nazis did to them. I recommend the watch. Shocking little film, but full of things we need to learn about.
