A bit silly, actually, when seen today.

This is another 'scare the crap out of our teenager films' from Sid Davis. In order to acquaint you with the notion of 'stranger danger', he paints a VERY grim picture of teens who were raped or murdered because they opened themselves up to assaults because of their own dumb behaviors. You see several recreations including fake babysitter ruses, couples out parking who are abducted and the like--most of which hardly EVER happened in real life. As a retired psychotherapist who worked in the area of sexual assault and other violent crimes, I know that rapes and murders are, by far, most often perpetrated by people you know--not the proverbial stranger. Now I am not saying there wasn't some truth to the film--but it overstated its case, was very dry and square and probably made teens laugh and ignore its message completely. As for me, I liked seeing all the GIANT hairdos and the like! It's good for a laugh but not much more.

Strangers With Candy

Griff Barnett narrates this Sid Davis film about how teen-agers are dopes, because they think that the world is a friendly place, and they know better than the people who are in charge of them.

Davis was one of the producers of educational films, the sort of thing that showed up in the classroom during the slow days between final exams and summer vacation. Like Coronet, they look simple, obvious, and cheaply made.

Stuart Whitman is supposed to play one of the roles in this one. If he does, he is so young I didn't recognize him.

Educational short has a judge talking about delinquent teens and how one bad turn can lead to trouble. Here's one of the earlier films from Sid Davis who would eventually become known as the king of education pictures. This one here really isn't all that memorable or entertaining for a number of reasons but the biggest is the fact that it's played way too straight, which leads to boredom and there just aren't any campy laughs to be had. As with many of the Davis films, this one here is well-made or at least a lot better made than you typically see in the genre. It's worth noting that one piece of advice is that parents shouldn't let their kids go near convertibles because only sex maniacs drive those cars.
