Here is a look at those two men and a few others spotlighted in our gallery of […]...

Welcome to the “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide-release movies. The month of August started off sluggishly with The Dark Tower taking the number one spot with just $19.5 million. Things don’t look to be getting better, especially this week. There’s a prequel to a movie no one really liked in Annabelle: Creation, and the sequel no one was asking for in The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature. Makes you miss the weeks when Dunkirk or War for the Planet of the Apes were opening, doesn’t it?
Annabelle: Creation
What we are excited about: Horror directors can make or break a project, and luckily for Annabelle: Creation, they have a pretty talented one here. David F. Sandberg directed last summer’s surprise hit Lights Out, which was inspired by his own short film. Lights Out was a fun, genuinely scary PG-13 horror flick,...

Uh oh! It looks like someone didn’t fact check Kylie Jenner‘s 2017 calendar – which she’s now selling on her official Kylie Shop merch store – before it went to print. Fans who bought the star’s 2017 calendar shot by infamous fashion photographer Terry Richardson are receiving it in the mail – and having a “record scratch” moment when they go to gold star their girl’s birthday.

The month of August is off to a great start in terms of DVD and Blu-ray releases as fans have an interesting variety of horror and sci-fi titles to look forward to on Tuesday, August 4th. One of my personal favorite zombie movies as of late, Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, will be making its home entertainment bow and we’ve also got a handful of other notable titles, including The Last Survivors, Lake Placid Vs. Anaconda, Into the Grizzly Maze, Joe Dante’s Burying the Ex and the fest-favorite documentary, The Nightmare.
And as if a new Dante film isn’t enough to be excited about, Warner Home Video is finally releasing a Blu-ray of Dante’s 1987 sci-fi comedy, Innerspace, on August 4th too.
Lake Placid Vs. Anaconda (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, DVD)

The month of August has been quite kind to Eva Marie, who has collected two non-title victories over WWE Divas champion Aj Lee, partook in a cover shoot for Muscle and Fitness Hers magazine and is gearing up for her co-starring role in the third season of E! Television’s hit reality show Total Divas. Despite her recent success and the infamy she has garnered among hardcore Internet wrestling fans, there is still very little known about the red hot young Diva. Where did she come from? Is she really anything like she is portrayed on Total Divas? Does she have any hobbies she particularly enjoys? What’s her favorite food? Is there any chance she’s single? These are the hard-hitting questions that every fans wants to know about the red hot young woman.
With so much looking up for her as the summer begins to give way to fall,...

The month of August is here and that means we’re two thirds of the way through 2014. For those of us that are part of the WWE Universe, that means we’re past SummerSlam and headed towards Night of Champions on September 21.
If you watched WWE TV this past week then you know that the booking team was pretty lazy. Raw wasn’t that great. It featured a main event of John Cena taking on Bray Wyatt, which turned into a six man tag with Mark Henry & Big Show joining Cena against Wyatt, Luke Harper & Erick Rowan. On Raw, Roman Reigns took on Wyatt. That match didn’t have a finish. It also turned into a six man tag with the same guys expect Reigns replaced Cena. It’s like the creative tea fell asleep this week.
There weren’t a lot of newsworthy items this week except...

The month of August is traditionally a dumping ground of sorts for movie studios. The tail end of the summer movie season, which unofficially runs from May through August, the first two weeks of the month are usually reserved for the last few big studio blockbusters left in the tank, as the studios try to sap out a bit more of the youth’s discretionary spending dollars before the call of schools and college campuses wrangles them back into their scholarly pens. After these initial weeks though, the rest of the month is typically a witches brew of this and that oddity that doesn’t quite fit into preconceived notions of genre (or even anybodies’ idea of a good movie), almost like a cinematic Dollar Store full of products nobody has any use for.
Every so often though, a movie from the summer sunset period does manage to break through...

There has been a lot of talk about how great the summer of 1982 was for movies. And, boy, it really was. (Among the 1982 summer releases were "E.T.," "Blade Runner," "Tron," "The Road Warrior," "Rocky III" and "Poltergeist.") The summer of 1982 was so good, in fact, that for a movie writer covering these current August movies -- doldrums of August, even -- it's kind of depressing. (But, "ParaNorman" is great. I promise.)
The month of August has built itself quite an infamous reputation as one of the worst movie months of the year: The summer blockbusters have wrapped up and awards season has yet to start -- which leaves audiences with movies like "Total Recall." But 2012 is far from the worst movie August ever. So, in the spirit of 1982 being the best summer for movies, I present you with a case for the worst August in the history of movies: 1996.

Chicago – The month of August contain the “dog days” of summer, when the season lumbers to a hazy and hot conclusion. How appropriate that the third film of a popular series would be called ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,’ because like summer’s end it feels lethargic. Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron and Steve Zahn star.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
This installment of the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series has a couple of distinctions – Zachary Gordon, who portrays the title character, has hit puberty, with a deeper voice and seemingly less energy to tackle wimpy Greg. Secondly, the emergence of background characters in telling the story. Greg’s Dad and brother are more importantly featured than best friend Rowley, contrary to the first two films. This all adds up to less enthusiastic “Diary,” which meanders without any spark, a contractual obligation rather than a beloved adaptation from the popular books.

July is flying by and before you know it the month of August will be here. The month of August is special in so many ways, most importantly it's the month that I was born, but it's also the time of year when thousands of families go on vacation, whether it's to the beach or Disney. August just seems like the perfect time of year for such events. But one there's one other thing that you might not be aware of - it just happens to be the exact month…...

It has been ‘raining’ music in the current season. The month of August saw more than 20 film soundtracks hitting the stands. The ones that managed to make an impression were ‘What’s Your Raashee?’, ‘Wake Up Sid’ and ‘Radio’. There was something for the masses too with ‘Wanted’ as well as ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ (to an extent) finding some patronage amongst the target audiences.
September saw relatively lesser number of albums arriving. However, close to a dozen odd albums meant that there was too much to choose for an average music.

The month of August 2009 is nearing its end, and it's time to go back and briefly look at the films I enjoyed and those I pretty much hated this month. These are one-minute reviews for all the films I've seen in theaters during August of 2009. Feel free to add yours in the comment section below.
• "Inglourious Basterds" - Quentin Tarantino's WWII drama is a true masterpiece, and even though the film doesn't offer us the usual Tarantino action, it boasts an intriguing atmosphere and a massive dose of brilliant, memorable dialogue. By the way, if Christoph Waltz doesn't get an Oscar nod, I'll eat a broom.
