Peter Coyote Riffs on ‘Country Music’ and How He Admires and Challenges Ken Burns
Though an instantly recognizable face from films such as “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” “A Walk to Remember” and “Erin Brockovich,” it is Peter Coyote’s voice — a coolly authoritative baritone with a Zen master’s holy roll — that has endeared him to documentary lovers and makers. Alrhough director-writer Alex Gibney used Coyote’s wisened narration for “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room,” and “The Pacific Century,” it is Ken Burns’ work where Coyote’s tones are most welcomed. In a collaboration that started with the 1992 documentary “The West,” Coyote has gone on to narrate 11 of Burns’ PBS film series, becoming almost a DeNiro to the documentarian’s Scorsese.

Being a musician and musical collector since his adolescence made Coyote an apt choice to narrate Burns’ epic new “Country Music” series. But it is the actor-writer’s activist past in the 1960s, cofounding the Diggers — the anarchist communal group that sought

In Advance of ‘The Notebook’ Musical, Nicolas Sparks Accused of Homophobia After Release of Damning Emails

This week, the Daily Beast reported that Nicholas Sparks, author of the hugely popular romance novels The Notebook and A Walk to Remember, had tried to ban Lgbt clubs and student protests at the Epiphany School, a Christian academy Sparks founded that is located in New Bern, North Carolina. Saul Benjamin, a former headmaster at the Epiphany School, is suing Sparks, claiming that he and other school board members “unapologetically marginalized, bullied, and harassed members of the School community whose religious views and/or identities did not conform to their religiously driven,

Author Nicholas Sparks Dismisses Allegations of Homophobia & Racism As Broadway Readies For ‘The Notebook’ Musical

For the second time in recent months, real-world controversy has visited the make-believe world of Broadway musicals.

Nicholas Sparks, whose 1996 novel The Notebook is being turned into a Broadway musical by, among others, playwright and This Is Us producer Bekah Brunstetter, was slammed in a Daily Beast article today for seemingly anti-gay emails he sent to the former headmaster of the faith-based prep school Sparks co-founded in 2006.

The situation echoes – if at a much lower volume – the recent and far-from-over controversy trailing the Michael Jackson-based musical Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.

Just this week, Vanessa Hudgens confirmed that she would take part in the first staged reading of the musical Notebook adaptation at Vassar and New York Stage & Film’s prestigious annual play development incubator called the Powerhouse. Others reportedly set to take part in the one-time-only reading on June 23 are Jelani Alladin, Nicholas Belton, Candy Buckley,

“I feel like I’m operating at my best now. I know what I want; I know how to ask for it; I know how to not settle until I get that,” Moore says. “I’m better at stepping up to the plate and acknowledging the value I bring to the plate. I guess that just only comes with the wisdom and clarity of time and age.”

The singer-turned-actress got her first taste of fame at the turn of the century when her debut single “Candy” hit the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Two years later she was dipping her toes in acting

Mandy Moore Details Harrowing Psychological Abuse From Ex-Husband Ryan Adams
Mandy Moore has had the kind of career arc that many in Hollywood can only dream of. After rocketing to fame with her first album, So Real, and its hit single, "Candy," in 1999, Moore was able to transition from being a teenage pop star into a respected actress, landing roles in films like Saved, A Walk to Remember, and Tangled. Given her critically acclaimed performance in NBC's This Is Us over the last three years, it might seem like Moore's music career is far behind her, but allegedly, her recent lack of presence in the music industry wasn't entirely her decision.

When the 34-year-old recently sat down with The New York Times to discuss her marriage to ex-husband Ryan Adams in the newspaper's exposé of his alleged history of sexual harassment and indecency, she revealed that the singer-songwriter had effectively derailed her musical success during the time they were together.

‘What Men Want’ Editor Helped Give the Movie a ’30s Screwball Comedy Feel

‘What Men Want’ Editor Helped Give the Movie a ’30s Screwball Comedy Feel
Editor Emma E. Hickox comes from a showbiz legacy family. Her father was director Douglas Hickox (“Sitting Target”), and her mother, Ann V. Coates, won an Oscar for editing “Lawrence of Arabia.” Even though young Emma learned much about the industry as a child “through osmosis,” she says that it was important for her to make it on her own.

“I wanted to direct theater,” says the London native, who had worked in L.A. as an unpaid assistant. “When someone said they were looking for an apprentice editor, I wasn’t keen at all. Then they told me how much they were going to pay, and I said, ‘See you on Monday!’”

Once in the editing room, Hickox fell for the job. Hard. “I love filing and being organized,” she says. “I’m very precise, so I adored being an assistant editor.” Working under Frank Morriss, Hickox learned that

What Men Want Review: A Raunchy Remake with Big Laughs

What Men Want Review: A Raunchy Remake with Big Laughs
What Men Want is the female oriented remake of Mel Gibson's hit 2000 comedy. Taraji P. Henson stars as a successful woman who can hear what men are thinking. The premise is a gold mine of awkward sexual encounters. The low brow humor and healthy sprinkling of F-bombs delivers several laugh out loud moments. Henson shows off her dynamic range with a surprisingly physical performance. An overly dramatic subplot and nearly tedious two hour runtime threaten the giddy mood. I mentally checked out for the sappy scenes, but was reeled back in by the raunchiness.

Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) is a high powered agent for an Atlanta sports management firm. She's the only black woman in an office of cutthroat, sexist men. Ali is livid when passed over for a promotion to company partner. She dumps her frustrations on her diminutive homosexual assistant, Brandon (Josh Brener). Ali doesn't realize
