Strong Cast, Poor Movie
WadoodS20 October 2020
Aarzoo has a strong cast of great actors like Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Amrish Puri, Madhuri and Saif Ali Khan in a poorly made flick. The dialogues were subpar. A fourth grader would write better lines. It had a typical Bollywood story. Some nice songs. Other than that, everything was amateur and not at the level of a blockbuster Bollywood movie. The protagonist's story was poorly developed. Action scenes were terrible except for Akshay Kumar's athleticism. 3.5/10

Typical bollywood romantic drama
gokulnaths_00710 June 2023
Similar plot to deewana. Felt like an average 90s movie. More like i enjoyed the songs in these movie than the story. Plot line is like a typical bollywood 90s romantic flicks. Both the three actors akshay kumar, madhuri dixit, saif ali khan are charming and portrayed beautifully. But that doesn't help the movie. The film is more like the story of wealthy people. As like other movie like deewana and jeet, we will know what will happen at the last. I watched it for the song 'ab tere dil mein'. When i was child the film felt okay. But after growing up film was somewhat mediocre. Just watched for akshay saif madhuri combo.

Desires gone wrong
Peter_Young21 November 2009
Aarzoo is an awful film. It is terribly made and more terribly written. The entire idea of the film is one old cliché, and the amateurish dialogues do not really help to elevate its level. The story follows a typical love triangle affected from past incidents (blah blah blah...), and the film takes inspiration from different Hindi films, for instance Sangam. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Madhuri Dixit and Saif Ali Khan, all of whom get let down by the poor and overly melodramatic script. I really wanted to see Kumar and Dixit working together, as they worked before partially in Yash Chopra's bright musical Dil To Pagal Hai and both were good, but here - their romance is unconvincing although it started well at the beginning. I also expected to see Akshay and Saif, who had played brothers or good friends many times in such entertaining films as Yeh Dillagi and Main Khiladi Tu Anari. Ironically there was an action scene in this one in which they fight with some gangsters in a club and you could here the famous tunes of both these films in the background. Anyway, all the actors fail here, though Madhuri does do a good job for the most part. The film's second half is simply unwatchable, and the final sequences are boring, cheesy and ridiculous. Aarzoo means "Wish", and I really wish I had not seen this one.

Terrible
silvan-desouza8 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Akshay and Saif were a hit jodi in 1994 wit 2 hits Yeh Dillagi and MKTA but then their jodi never worked again, be it TU CHOR MAIN SIPAHI,KEEMAT all bombed. Aarzoo was reportedly a delayed film which was signed in early 90s The film is a romantic love triangle just like Yeh Dillagi but falters The film is directed bY Saajan fame Lawrence D'Souza The film is very clichéd and melodramatic, we have the same twists and turns done to death There are several gaffes in the film, the scenes shift from Mumbai to foreign locales and also the looks of the actors keep changing Akshay and Madz love story is finished within 8-15 minutes, Even their romance is too silly and trite, while The love triangle too gets repetitive. We also have the mandatory villains who pop in and out.

Direction is not up to the mark Music is decent, some songs are tuneful

Akshay Kumar in his bad days does an okay job, in some portions his voice is awfully dubbed over by someone else Madhuri Dixit looks good but the role hardly seems worth it Saif Ali Khan in his 90s nasal tone is okay Amongst rest Amrish Puri is as usual, Paresh Rawal, Tej Sapru, Reema Lagoo, Aruna Irani are all as usual

Worst Akshay-Saif film
superindrajit15 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan were a successful pair with the superhit Yeh Dillagi(1994) and Main Khiladi Tu Anari(1994) and this success led them to sign several unsuccessful ventures like Tu Chor Main Siphai(1996),Keemat(1998), and Aarzoo(1999). Of the unsuccessful films, Tu Chor Main Sipahi was clichéd and corny yet watchable due to some comedy and good action. Keemat(1998) was terribly handled but it had really good stunts and a few decent moments. However, Aarzoo(1999) has no redeeming features and very little stands out in this movie.

Aarzoo(1999) was a dud when it released, it just added one more flop to Akshay Kumar's by then 10 flop record and the film added one more flop to Lawrence D'Souza's list who was only known for one hit film(Saajan). The film presented the age old formula of the hero and heroine falling in love but the heroine's father refuses as he wants a second hero to marry his daughter who is the son of his dead best friend. Akshay Kumar's character is presumed dead after a plane crash and Saif marries Madhuri after Amrish Puri forces his daughter Madhuri to marry the son of his best friend. However, Madhuri's child is actually Akshay's son not Saif's. Akshay Kumar is actually not dead and he has joined hands with some villains and he wants to kill Saif because he thinks Saif planned his murder when it was Amrish Puri who wanted him to die(so Saif could marry Madhuri). The rest of this botched up nonsensical film is how the misunderstandings are cleared and the villains are killed.

Direction by Lawrence D'Souza takes the word terrible to a completely new level. The film has not been handled properly at all, the comedy is stupid and the romance is childish. The misunderstandings are rushed and this is the only thing that interests you in this terrible movie. The action is typical and the stuntman has not done a good job this time with stupid stunts. The climax is bad and it is puzzling how Akshay reaches the place at the right time by hang gliding.

Akshay Kumar is mediocre here and his performance is nothing to shout about. This time, the action is also bad so the whole film fails according to me. In short, Akshay Kumar is wasted in a childish role which requires minimal acting. He did a much better job in Sangharsh(1999). Saif Ali Khan is stupid because he does the same type of acting with annoying expressions. He was likable in MKTA and YD and Aaashiq Awaara(1993) but other than this, he hasn't acted in good films in the 90s. Madhuri Dixit is decent but she has to do nothing but cry and fall for Akshay. Paresh Rawal was wasted in a nonsensical villain role and he shouldn't have signed this film. Amrish Puri is good but he repeats his typical act. The rest provide decent support.

On the whole, Aarzoo is a film which bores to death and it is to be avoided. This is one of those terrible mistakes Akshay, Saif, and Madhuri made in the 90s and the industry didn't need to produce this crap.

Good Movie
parth-2304829 September 2017
It is a good entertainment movie with some beautiful songs. Madhuri played her role with ease and perfection. Her dancing skills are unbeatable. Akhay performed good action scenes. Saif supported a well.

The movie lost rhythm during the climax and ended with normal. It could be more entertaining if directors worked well in those scenes
