George R.R. Martin has given the world a series of books that captivated us. The "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels inspired the HBO series "Game of Thrones," and his 2018 prequel book "Fire and Blood" has spawned the upcoming series "House of the Dragon," set 200 years before the first series. It's a complex world, full of rich characters, dark dealings, power-mad rulers, and brave souls fighting for their freedom, and often, their lives.
The first book came out in 1996, and the fifth in 2011. As this is supposed to be a seven book series, you can understand that many fans are anxious for the sixth book after 11 years of waiting. Martin has been busy with public appearances, his work on both of the HBO series, and writing the prequel, and on his website, he has given different sorts of updates on the state of the sixth book, with his self-imposed deadlines passing again and again.

After playing the final track on her album “Get Well Soon,” Darden gave the singer a chance to open up about the song and the aftermath of what happened in Manchester.
“Obviously [if you see it] on the news it affects you but not in the same way,” Grande says of tragedies. “You feel bad, you tweet it,...

A year after the terrorist bombing at her concert in Manchester, Ariana Grande is paying tribute to the 22 victims of the attack on her new album, “Sweetener.”
The final song, “Get Well Soon,” includes 40 seconds of silence that makes the song’s duration exactly 5:22 in length — the date of the Manchester bombing in 2017.
In an interview with Ebro Darden for Beats 1, Grande discussed the importance of the song’s message to “help each other through scary times.” “There’s some dark s— out there, man, and we just have to be there for each other as much as we can,” she said.
She continued, “[But] it’s not just about that. It’s also about personal demons and anxiety and more intimate tragedies as well. Mental health is so important. People don’t pay enough mind to it because we have things to do, we have schedules, we have jobs,...

At some point in the process of listening to Ariana Grande’s fourth and most delightful album, “Sweetener,” which is slightly dominated by six songs produced and co-written by Pharrell Williams, it may occur to you: Well, of course she was going to hook up with the guy who made “Happy” one of the biggest hits of the decade. Grande has had a couple of venti-sized bitter teas to swallow in the last couple of years — a celebrity breakup and a bombing, in no particular traumatic order — so who better to go to, to make a record that’s sweet ‘n’ high?
Williams is not Grande’s only major enabler in this effort. She’s working again with the team of Max Martin and Ilya, who made significant contributions to her last album, 2016’s “Dangerous Woman.” It’s the Martin/Ilya duo responsible for the two pre-release singles you’ve...

"Psych" stars James Roday and Dule Hill were scheduled to guest host "WWE Monday Night Raw" on Monday (Jan. 25), but only Hill was actually on hand.
Turns out Roday had an appendectomy on Saturday and was unable to make the hosting gig.
News that he would be missing the "WWE" show was broken during a promotional chat with Hill and wrestler John Cena earlier in the day.
What does an appendectomy get you from a bunch of wrestlers? A Get Well Soon card or a lot of teasing?
The new season of "Psych" premieres this Wednesday on USA and will feature Cena. Good thing it was filmed months ago, or there may have been some payback.

· Why is Oprah interviewing Adam Lambert? I don't remember him being a part of It's Complicated.
· Screenwriter Kerry Williamson is going to adapt the Kay Scarpetta book series for Angelina Jolie. Assertive, lesbian-adjacent crime solving? Whoever would think of Angelina Jolie for such a film!
· Elton John is not going to join American Idol. Yet. He and Ellen would be quite the gay coup, though.
· Rue McClanahan is in a nursing facility, recovering from a November stroke. Get well soon, Rue.
· Bryan Cranston is joining the packed cast of John Carter of Mars. You're in it too! Congratulations!

The celebrities are ready to dance, the judges are in their chairs and we're on the edge of our sofa ready for some more thrills and spills from the Strictly dancefloor. However, there's one big thing missing - Brucie! For the first time in the show's history, the old stager will not be holding court with his dodgy gags and toe-tapping interludes. We can't speak for everyone, but we're definitely going to miss him. Get well soon, Bruce! However, the show must go on and with only eight celebrities left, it promises to be an exciting night on the dancefloor. 20:27: Well that is that. It's goodbye for The Cat and Kat. Next week, we get Shirley Bassey and Brucie will be back. But will Jade? And what will happen with Laila's leg? If there are many more injuries, there might not even be a show next week! Leave...

Unfortunately, my doctor has laid down the law, and I'm currently having some maintenance on the old ticker. Trust me, I'd much rather be in San Francisco having fun and being adored by all of you." Curious George. Harold and the Purple Crayon. Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel. Classics each and every one. Call it a babysitter in a box or call it a great tool for educating your children, either way what we have on our hands here is 19 hours of story books new and old converted to a digital medium. Some of these genuinely are treasures reincarnated in an animated medium while others are newer stories that have yet to prove their heirloom mettle. However, your average tot won’t care as much about the legacy of a given story as they will about the presentation. A majority of the stories found on these 16 discs have received the full animation treatment from the humble illustration origins, but there are a few in the collection which are little more than scans of the pages being panned over by the camera. Depending on the age...

If you are not into the sun, sand and cinema that Spain’s Sitges (see last report here and go here for the fest’s official site) has to offer, the next best thing about this international film festival is the socializing. Hundreds of genre celebrities, fans and journalists have assembled in this coastal town, and this edition has witnessed such folks as Thirst’S Park Chan-wook, Tetsuo’s Shinya Tsukamoto, The Abandoned’s Nacho Cerdá (busy teaching in Barcelona, he tells me), Ghostbusters’ Ivan Reitman, [Rec] 2 helmers Paco Plaza and Jaume Belagueró (“Doing better at the box office in Spain than the first film,” Belagueró says), Day Of The Beast’s Alex de la Iglesia (looking very professorial), Orphan’s tiny terror Isabelle Fuhrman and Irreversible’S Gaspar Noé (whose controversial new film Enter The Void is debuting here), just to name a few.

Darren Bousman knows all about torturing folks. I mean, come on, after three Saw sequels how could you not become adept at it? His latest casualty? The sultry Jaime King who recently starting blogging about her on-set experiences while making Mother's Day.

Ugh. Bad news... According to the Hollywood Reporter, Maura Tierney needs an "eight-week medical evaluation" of some kind. (NBC: "We are unable to release further details and ask that you respect her privacy at this time.") This means that Maura's upcoming NBC drama, Parenthood, produced by Ron Howard and Jason Katims and costarring Peter Krause and Mae Whitman, will be pushed to midseason. Mercy, the Michelle Trachtenberg series about nurses, will premiere in Parenthood's place. But the schedule switching is obviously not the point. Maura Tierney is a visibly awesome woman whom we have loved since NewsRadio and all the way through ER, and whatever she's going through right now...
