Loveliest movie of them all
raija-liukkunen30 December 2002
I saw the film (first part) 'Gustav III's äktenskap' and I think it was so excellent movie that other movie makers should watch it and learn how to make quality movies. I would like to order an original version of it but I do not know how. It was subtitled and I am happy that I had a chance to hear the actors speak in Swedish. The actors Jonas Karsson, Iben Hjejle and Magnus Roosman were great and the plot and the dresses and everything were EXCELLENT and so lovely that I do not find words how to discribe it. Definitely I put this movie almost to the best category in my movie list. I would like to cancel my trip abroad on Saturday when the second part comes but my friends insist that I have to travel with them. They do not understand that I want to to see the second part immediately when it comes - not from the video and what if the recording does not work. I really recommend this movie to adults and maybe to kids over 12 yeas of age. All the best to everyone who were part in this movie. This movie affected so much on a positive way into my life. Thank you so much and Happy New Year 2003!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

best TV historical drama around
ruski-17 September 2005
I've seen it on Russian television a year ago and I am still in desperate search for a hard copy. By any means the best television historical drama I've ever seen. Delicate approach to the theme, witty dialogues, perfect camera-work, excellent casting, stage design and color. Surprisingly fine tuned relationship and characters set-up. The director's and actors' work is brilliant, leaving enough out of the frame, still making the plot clear and enjoyable. Certain moments could leave the spectator literally breathless. The drama of the King's reluctance to meet his family duties and the further tradegy of his marriage are shown with great respect and perfect dose of irony. This is especially a plus for a country which is a monarchy. I'd wish every single moment of 18th century history was filmed like this, especially concerning the coming soon Touchstone's "Casanova". A must-see for everybody interested in historical drama. The authors deserve all praise.

Bravo

This wonderful film I saw two times.I was waiting for this film more than for others. So why? Firstly I liked a plot.I don't know exactly if it is a historian (i think yes ).At first you laugh at the King, then sympathize with him and later you understand all his tragedy. We see two lines:common life and Palace life. And there are two representatives:Gustav and Munck. King couldn't avoid his destiny ( like everyone),he has got a palace upbringing+jealous mother. And we see man who is afraid of his desire and so on.If he doesn't need a child he will never overcome his fear. Meet his antipode-Munck.He is a normal man.He is a Man!Without such cockroach in his head and complexes."Nature is our best teacher"-said Munck and he is devilly right! Now Queen.Surely the same upbringing+fear of mother-in-law.But if were her I will look at Munck. He knows how to make woman happy. Also music in this film is great. To be honest,i cried during watching this film.I think it is the best praise. Bravo! Bravo!! Bravo!!!
