A very good opener to this well remembered story.

Young Rachel is placed in real danger, as she goes to a man she believes is her Father.

The Armchair Thriller series is very much a mixed bag, there was the out and out brilliance of Quiet as a Nun and the shockingly awful Circe Complex. However, I digress, the series kicked off with this four part series, Rachel in Danger. First point of note, the eerie opening credits and Ron Grainer's creepy music. I can imagine this alone would have sent a chill down many a youngster's spine during it's original airing.

Rachel in Danger as a whole is one of the better entries in the series, despite the plot is a little far fetched, how fortunate for Juan to bump into at that exact moment in time, but once that stretch is over it opens up into a very good, very watchable drama. Fair play to young Della Low, she made Rachel so believable, that you can't help but want her to be saved from the mortal danger that she's in. Stephen Grief is wonderfully measured, always been a good 'bad guy,' Travis in Blake's 7 etc.

It moves along nicely, this first part sees Rachel truly placed in danger, the scenes will the old Dear on the train are sweet, 7/10

Rachel in Danger!! - I Think Not!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Over at Amazons a few people have criticized this excellent series for not being as good as Brian Clemen's "Thriller" - or not the same. It was never intended to be similar to "Thriller". "Armchair Thriller" was a half hour weekly show, that was more like a mini series, in which popular mystery books and stories were adapted to T.V. I thought "Rachel in Danger" was excellent, being in 4 parts instead of 6 (ie "A Dog's Ransom") made the pacing tighter, plus the fact it was nice to see a child who was sensible and clever - instead of a hysteric or a smart aleck. Even though this appears to be the only credit of actress Della Low - I thought she was wonderful as Rachel. Maybe there are parents out there who don't see their child as the next top kiddie star.

The initial scene was pretty far fetched, I admit. Rachael's father bumps into an old friend, who just happens to be an international terrorist on the lookout for a new identity etc - poor old dad just happens to confess he has no friends or family and he is newly arrived after several years in the jungle. So dad is killed, shoved in a closet and Juan (Stephen Grief) who with a flick of his fringe and the donning of glasses, looks remarkably like his victim. Victim forgets to tell him that he is due to pick up his daughter, Rachel (who hasn't seen Dad in eight years) at Euston Station.

Is Rachel ever in danger - her calm demeanour suggests she has everything under control - she not only requests and remembers the police lady's full name but also has the presence of mind to write two letters to the police station detailing all that is happening. An avid reader, she quickly realises what's going on - especially when she finds a body in the linen cupboard, works out that the parasol, that her "parents" intend to take to the garden party is not all it should be and is left in the charge of a hysterical amateur terrorist who is always muttering "we must kill them, Kill them"!!! They are no match for Rachel!!

Highly Recommended.

Warning: Spoilers
So i dont really know what to think about the episode because its only the first part and we dont really have the whole picture of it . But i can say that its still kind of a mystery about why that man steal the identity of the other . And he get pretty surprised when there is a little girl named Rachel .so we will see how things evolved and from what i understand they also kindmof steal also the little girl and steal also their role of parents . So yeah i dont really know what will happen after that but im still curious and that episode is mostly here to introduce the characters and plot but need to see the other parts.

Very Contrived

Warning: Spoilers
This was the first of ITV`s ARMCHAIR THRILLER serials which would start with the Thames TV landscape logo coming up on screen modified so that instead of being daytime it`d be night time . The title sequence of the show was fairly memorable of a darkened room with a shadow falling across a chair centered in the middle of the room then the shadow sitting in it . Suddenly the camera crash zooms onto the shadows face

!!!! SPOILERS !!!!

If memory serves me right RACHEL IN DANGER is rather contrived . A man bumps into an old associate called Juan ( Played by Stephen Greif who BLAKES 7 fans will know as Travis ) so they go back to the man`s house where Juan murders him and steals his identity . It turns out Juan is an international terrorist whose group is going to assassinate HRH Queen Elizabeth the second a bit like THE NAKED GUN without the humour . It then turns out the murdered man has a daughter called Rachel who he hasn`t seen for many years who just happens to paying him a holiday visit on the day Juan murdered her father . Obviously since she hasn`t seen her dad for several years she won`t be able to recognise him . Being amidst such a dastardly plot involving world proleterian revolution Rachel is in danger of being executed to keep her quiet . The story ends with Juan from BLAKES 7 trying to shoot her majesty at a garden party with a gun disguised as an umbrella which explodes killing comrade Juan . Rachel walks away muttering that she put plasticine in the barrel

If Enid Blyton ever wrote sequels to THE NAKED GUN this is what it might look like
