Fringe alum Anna Torv has joined the cast of HBO’s The Last of Us in a recurring role opposite Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. The series, based on the widely popular 2014 PlayStation game of the same name, hails from Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and The Last Of Us creator Neil Druckmann.
Based on Naughty Dog’s award-winning video game, The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed by a deadly virus. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone to the Fireflies, a cure-searching organization. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Armstrong scored a brace on the first game of the season against Wigan and then followed that up against Millwall where he bagged another two goals, helping Coventry to a fifth place position in League One.
The hope is that Steve McClaren can integrate Armstrong into his set-up at the end of the season and he can use his lower division experience to begin to compete at the top level.
The 18-year-old, said:

Newcastle United are finally looking to add goals to their defence – by targeting Brighton & Hove Albion’s top-scorer from the 2014-15 campaign Lewis Dunk, according to reports.
In fact, The Daily Mail claim that the Magpies are contemplating offering one centre-back in part-exchange for another – by trying to use Mike Williamson as a makeweight in a deal for the £5 million-rated defender.
Dunk might be a centre-back but he scored seven goals for the Seagulls last season, two better than former Magpies winger Kazenga LuaLua, meaning he was the club’s top scorer.
And, despite Brighton having rejected a £4 million offer from Fulham for the defender earlier in the summer, The Daily Mail suggest Chris Hughton could be willing to part with Dunk if he can be reunited with Williamson on the south coast.

Newcastle United, Manchester United and Everton are all keeping prying eyes on Manchester City wonderkid Cameron Humphreys.
The Daily Mail claims that the 16-year-old centre-back, who has impressed during Man City’s pre-season tour to Australia, is interesting the Sky Blues’ Premier League rivals – and that both Man Utd and Newcastle are ready to offer the defender a contract once he turns 17.
Formerly of Oldham Athletic’s academy, Humphreys originally became frustrated with life at the Lancashire club and gave up the dream of playing professionally to return to Sunday League football – until Man City tempted him back.
Having started against both Melbourne City and Real Madrid during pre-season, it is clear that Manuel Pellegrini rates Humphreys highly.
Yet the Magpies, the Red Devils and the Toffees appear to believe they have a good chance of signing the centre-back once his scholar’s contract at Eastlands ends,...

After a long, long week in Cannes, Mumbrella managing editor Robin Hicks has some awards of his own to give out.
So, the crazy advertising circus that is Cannes is over. And all the awards have been given out. But no one likes going home empty handed.
Here are the Unofficial Cannes Lions winners…
Juiciest rumour – grand prix: The big networks have been leaning on the judges to vote for their own network’s entries.
Juiciest rumour – gold: Haymarket will close the print editions of ‘advertising Bible’ Campaign or Marketing in the UK and make them online only.
Juiciest rumour – silver: Block voting by networks will lead to a boycott of Cannes.
Biggest criticism of Cannes – grand prix: Presentations were repeats of those given at other festivals earlier in the year.
Biggest criticism of Cannes – gold: The work wasn’t as good as last year.

The Toronto Comic Arts Festival takes place this weekend, and Cbldf wants to make comics fans and creators crossing the border into Canada aware of their rights. Last year, several creators were subject to intrusive search on their way to Tcaf, and creators Tom Neely and Dylan Williams had books seized by Canada Customs. In 2010, comics fan Ryan Matheson was arrested when he crossed the Canadian border with what Canada Customs thought were objectionable comic books on his laptop. You need to know your rights when crossing international borders with comic books.
In an interview with Cbldf, Neely and Williams described the search that led to the seizure before last year’s Tcaf:
Neely: They asked us to stand by the wall of the building and asked for the keys to our car. They opened up our suitcases and pulled out a random sampling of about 5 comic...

All things Cannes are just around the corner, including the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The "Under 30" division is "dedicated to nurturing the young talent of [the] industry: the students, young creatives, up-and-coming marketing talent, suits and young directors." Ddb Toronto copywriter Daniel Bonder felt his work deserved entry into the Young Lions Creative Academy, but the clock was ticking. Bonder turns 29 years old this summer, and in the spirit of being young and dumb he created a "f*ck-it" list of everything he wanted to do before the big 3-0. Bonder turned the list into a video submission for Young Lions, and was accepted. Sometimes being reckless pays! In the video Bonder drinks like a fiend, has sex in an alley...

Canadian customs official have seized graphic novels entering the country. In two separate incidents, creators had their work confiscated while crossing the border to attend Toronto Comics Art Festival. All five copies of Tom Neely's Black Eye anthology - a collection of darkly humorous stories published by Rotland Press + Comics Works - were taken by customs. Sparkplug publisher Dylan Williams was also relieved of his copies of Blaise Larmee's Young Lions, the cartoonist's debut graphic novel and a recipient of the prestigious Xeric grant. "I tried to get them to just ship them back to me at home, but they said they (more)...

The atmosphere at the New York Public Library dinner. From PatrickMcMullan.com. Stocking-less women sporting short cocktail dresses hung off the arms of their bowtie-clad dates as they glided up the steps of the New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman building on Fifth Avenue last night, making the annual trek to the Library Lions fall benefit. Despite the gloomy economic climate, the party raised more that it ever has, with the cocktail and dinner pulling in $2.5 million, and the junior Young Lions dance portion of the evening raising nearly $220,000, which was 45 percent more than the target goal. “We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout or a more energetic crowd than the one that came to support the library last night,” said Nick Brown, who was a chairman of the Young Lions’ benefit committee along with Emma Bloomberg, Aaron Eckhart, and Scarlett Johansson, among others. Before the seated dinner,...

Like so many working actors, Elizabeth Reaser has endured her share of maddening pilot seasons. "Oh my God, it was just insane: pounding the pavement, going on a gazillion really bad auditions, and just being humiliated day in and day out and never even getting a test or a callback or anything," she recalls. "Just complete desperation followed by despair. It was years of that." Things went a little differently this time around. Fresh off her Emmy- and Screen Actors Guild Award-nominated turn as troubled Grey's Anatomy amnesiac Ava/Rebecca Pope, Reaser landed the lead role in CBS's buzzy new series The Ex List. And yet she doesn't feel all that removed from the crushing lows of previous years. "I don't feel like, 'Oh, cool, I'm here, it's done,' " she says. At least two of this season's other potential breakout stars also can't quite believe they've come so far.

Australian actress Anna Torv is J.J. Abrams' latest discovery.
The newcomer to the U.S. has been tapped as the lead in Fringe, Fox's high-profile sci-fi drama from Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
Veteran TV and stage actress Blair Brown and Jasika Nicole also have joined the cast.
The two-hour pilot, being directed by Alex Graves, centers on Olivia Warren (Torv), a young, tough FBI agent who is forced to confront the spread of unexplained phenomena and work with Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), an institutionalized scientist whose work might be at the center of a coming storm.
On the Warner Bros. TV/Bad Robot drama, Brown will play the brilliant Nina Cord, a 16-year veteran at Prometheus Corp., a cutting-edge research facility. Nicole will play the recurring role of Astrid, a stunning federal assistant.
The three join the previously cast Noble, Lance Reddick and Kirk Acevedo.
Abrams is known for breaking new female talent on his TV series with the casting of Keri Russell on Felicity, Jennifer Garner on Alias and Evangeline Lilly on Lost.
In her native Australia, Torv has co-starred on such TV series as The Secret Life of Us and Young Lions. She is repped by Endeavor.
