The Haunted Greatcoat
richardchatten26 October 2020
'The Encyclopaedia of British Film' has now run to four editions yet still hasn't found space for Gaston Quiribet and his series of novelty shorts Q-riosities by "Q".

Made midway between George Melies' trick films and the sequence with the wishing ring in 'Road to Morocco', which this resembles. The intervening quarter of a century that separates Quiribet's films from Melies' hasn't resulted in his little anecdotes being any more sophisticated; but they are smoothly executed with considerably more grace, and also enhanced by the use of actual locations, doubtless long since built up.

This film was made by the veteran of the cinemaCecil Hepworth, employing special effects from the dawn of cinema.Probably made as a filler for ciema programmes of the era.
