Jon Culshaw, perhaps the finest Fourth Doctor impersonator this side of Kasterborous, France, will be lending his dulcet tones to the audiobook adaptation of the indomitable Doctor Who and The Ark in Space. Ladbroke audio played host to the Dead Ringers star as he recorded his very first audiobook over two fun, epic days as...

Jon Culshaw is to star in a new topical puppet sketch show. The 46-year-old impressionist - who is best known for his starring role in BBC Two comedy 'Dead Ringers' - will play a leading role in new ITV programme 'Newzoids', which promises to tackle the week's news events using ''state of the art animation''. Elaine Bedell, the director of entertainment and comedy for the broadcaster, explained: ''ITV has a rich history of playing popular satirical comedy in peak time on its main channel, and it seemed a good time to revive it this year. ''We are pleased to be adding to...

It's been a whopping 30 years since Spitting Image first hit our screens on ITV in 1984. The satirical puppet show quickly became one of the most-watched shows of the 1980s and early 1990s.
I wasn't able to fully appreciate the series when it was first on TV. When I watched it in the early '90s as a child, I found it funny mainly because of the silly puppets, even if I didn't quite understand what was going on. But in retrospective viewings, it still holds up as a genuinely hilarious satire of politics, entertainment, sport and general UK culture of the era.
It's quite incredible to think that Spitting Image hasn't been on air since 1996. To put that into perspective, the Spice Girls had only just been unleashed, Tony Blair hadn't been elected yet, and Lorde had only just been born.

Doctor Who fans... we're a funny old bunch, aren't we?
At best, we're caught in a state of permanent anxiety about the fate of our favourite sci-fi drama, and at worst, we're downright pessimistic about it.
So ever since head honcho Steven Moffat promised, way back in December 2012, that Doctor Who would "take over television" in its 50th anniversary year, fans have wanted to know what we're getting, when we're getting it and whether it'll match our lofty expectations.
The BBC officially unveiled its slate of celebratory programming at 00.01am this morning (unofficially revealing it a little earlier than that!) and, it has to be said, it's a pretty damn impressive line-up.
All four major BBC channels, plus Cbbc, BBC Radio 2, Radio 4 Extra and iPlayer, will be hosting shows dedicated to the big birthday bash - though some hard-to-please Whovians are still finding reason to complain...

If, like us, you're of the opinion that impression shows got a bit stale the thousandth time Jon Culshaw declared "My fellow Americans" on Dead Ringers, then you might appreciate the new take on the comedy sub-genre offered up by The Mimic.
Terry Mynott is the star of this not-entirely uplifting sitcom, playing an unremarkable maintenance man with a hidden talent for celebrity impressions. From Terry Wogan to Morgan Freeman,...

Considering the title, The Fires Of Pompeii is curiously something of a damp squib. The story revolves around a big moral dilemma which plagues The Doctor throughout. And just like that big dilemma, The Fires Of Pompeii seems to be stuck in its own indecisive rut throughout.
It just cannot make up its mind on what it wants to be. Big ethical epic? Spooky story of sisterhood shenanigans? Flamey monster tale? Well, Fires touches on all three bases, but somehow only dips its arm in the water instead of diving right in. It's also interesting in that it starts to break the mould of a by now familiar season pattern. Normally, the first historical of the season acquaints The Doctor with a famous face from the past. In this season, we'll later get Agatha Christie in The Unicorn And The Wasp. But for now, The Fires Of Pompeii takes The...

"Great LezBritian" is a fortnightly stroll through the very best of British lesbo-centric entertainment and culture. Plus there will be some jolly good interviews with the top ladies who are waving the flag for gay UK.
If AfterEllen.com was a British site, it would be called AfterSandi.com. We grew up watching Sandi Toksvig on children’s TV show Number 73 in the 80s, felt her pain as she sailed around Britain with John McCarthy in the 1990s and today we are entertained weekly by her Radio 4 panel show, The News Quiz.
She recently flew into Glasgow for the city’s book festival, Aye Write, and we had the privilege of spending a funny, informative and inspiring 40 minutes with her before her performance inside one of Glasgow’s grandest buildings, The Mitchell Library.
She arrived in the green room, a very short lady, with a massive presence and immediately told...

Jon Culshaw has admitted that he expected to be reprimanded by Sir Alan Sugar when they met at the BAFTAs. The impressionist regularly targeted the Amstrad tycoon on his comedy show Dead Ringers after Sugar's reality series The Apprentice launched in 2005. In one episode, Culshaw referred to Sugar as "Britain's most successful hedgehog". He also mocked Amstrad, describing it as "the Lego version of Microsoft". Speaking about the BAFTA meeting in an interview with the Daily Record, Culshaw revealed: "My girlfriend at the time was saying that he was staring (more)...
