"I'll wrap this chain around your neck and shove it down your throat"

Ah, yes, the writing skills of Ed Wood are shown off in the trailer for Fugitive Girls, one of the gems in volume eight of Something Weird Video's drive-in trailer series.

In spite of having no trailers for horror films, volume eight offers a good variety. Included are trailers for spaghetti westerns, nurse movies, women in prison flicks, martial arts pictures, and good ole 70's era Crown International thrillers. Here are some of my favorites. The Family features awesome Ennio Morricone music. The Manhandlers gives the viewer a memorable sample of how the mob does mathematics. The A.I.P. released Cockfighter gets a solemn trailer thanks to the editing and the deep wariness of star Warren Oates. Django the Last Killer looked to be a better than usual Djano cash-in and featured The Grim Reaper himself, George Eastman. In terms of eye candy, we get: Angie Dickinson (Big Bad Mama), Pam Grier (three films), Katherine Justice (The Stepmother), Angel Thompkins (The Teacher), and Mimsy Farmer (Road to Salina).

In fact, Road to Salina is my favorite trailer in this volume. I had never heard of the film before I watched volume eight the first time. Afterwards, I tracked the film down. It turned out to be a surprisingly good movie. The trailer, in retrospect, gives away more than it should, but the trailer made me want to watch the full film.

Finally, I need to mention Sabu and the Magic Ring. The voice-over promises the viewer that Sabu will fight against the forty thieves, but the accompanying footage appears to be thirty-six thieves shy. Nonetheless, the presence of William Marshall, Blacula, himself, as the genie more than makes up for the missing thieves.
