Beautiful, quiet portrait of a landscape and its people
pozzi-328 December 2006
Volker Koepp's documentary works through the power of quiet images and takes time to observe everyday life of people like Sina the red-headed milkmaid. Beautiful landscapes and powerful moments capture a foreign remote world and allow a glimpse at life in rural East Prussia leaving a lasting impression. When Anatoli's son emerges from the waters of the Gilge on his horse riding bareback along the river bank, one wishes Sina's knight in shining armor won't be far. Despite the pinching mood and despair, these people have not given up. They survive against all odds in a forgotten land where the power of nature rules. 'Die Gilge' is the third documentary in a trilogy called 'Baltische Geschichten' unfortunately not available on DVD.
