Montresor is not as fond of Fortunato as the latter believes, and when he invited Fortunato to taste some special Amontillado sherry down in the cellar, he has a hidden agenda.
An unnamed narrator marries Morella, a philosophy scholar, who spends most of her time in bed reading and teaching. Realizing her deterioration, her husband becomes frightened and wishes for his wife's death and eternal peace.
